What are you talking about?Gordon Cadden wrote: who wish to escape the dreaded Board Fees.
If you want games played in a Welsh tournament to be included in your ECF grade, you have to be an ECF member, announce your intention prior to the tournament to submit results for grading and then submit them, complete with Welsh ratings if the opponents don't have ECF grades.
Under the now discontinued Game Fee system, a tournament would pay a fee to the ECF for its membership thereof. This would be based on the number of games submitted for grading. Whilst most tournaments would load the entry fee to raise the funds to pay the ECF, this was by no means compulsory if they had other sources of funding. In fact for tournaments to pay rating fees to national federations is a common method of financing across the world.

I am really not sure what relevance a surname has to their Welsh 'ness' to be honest?Gordon Cadden wrote:who wish to escape the dreaded Board Fees.

The structure in Cardiff is that there are two FIDE rated events. There's the Welsh Championships which is restricted to qualified players, one of the qualifications being to be Welsh according to WCU definitions. The other event is a not terribly strong Open, where at 2002, I am fourth seed.Carl Hibbard wrote: I am really not sure what relevance a surname has to their Welsh 'ness' to be honest?
