Which it is. Well it's both really, you use the measurement of results over a recent period as a proxy for playing strength. Did you notice that the grading team recently scrapped the publication of grades based on only six months play, even where at least 30 games had been played? There are still grades published every six months, but they always reflect at least the previous twelve months. So if you play at 195 for the first six months and 175 afterwards, you come out as 185, instead of jumping up to 195 and collapsing to 175.

Now if they'd metaphorically hanged the CJ, it would have saved us all a great deal of trouble.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

And others might feel, rather strongly, that it is no place for the chair of governance to seek to influence a vote over the election of a board.
Given events at and following the British, including the the CEO and GC reports to today's meeting, this seems possibly entirely appropriate and not entirely surprising to a mere direct member like me.

Is he allowed to influence his own election/appointment? There wouldn't be any point in voting for him if you or your proxies were also voting for the CEO.

It leaves open the question as to what happens next if "none of the above" is made the Chair of a Committee. I think quite deliberately it's not a Board appointment. Is one of the other appointees upgraded to Chair?

Roger - I think it is. I was appointed Chairman of the Governance Committee by the Board following the death of John Dunleavy
