Noticed this thread just in time to enter before play starts. Hard to argue with Adams/Howell/Jones/Pert so I'll go with that

Round 3 then looks a little more interesting, so I'll go for:

1. Adams win
2. Howell win
3. Draw
4. Pert win

Even the closest FIDE rankings, board 4, show a 230 points (2570 v 2341) differential which I reckon to be almost 30 points on the ECF scale. Odds stacked against the lower-rated players so I'll go for Adams/Howell/Jones/Pert for a second time!

I'll have the same please. (No idea who is playing, or given this was on a different thread, whether this was a Two Ronnies style answer to a different question.)

Maybe predict what round the top seeds will start dropping half points? Or the round when the last player on 100% drops a half point or more. That would be more difficult to predict.

And I am going to predict a draw on board 1 for Peter Wells versus Mickey Adams.
For good luck, I'll predict Peter Batchelor to draw against Nick Pert.

Running out of time with the top players :) Either someone drops points this round, or - with 14 players on 2/2, you need 7 wins and an upfloat to keep them all apart in Round 4. That latter isn't terribly likely.

Last round for no one on 100% is definitely tricky.

The top four (Adams, Howell, Jones and Nick Pert) are on 2/2, much as expected (with a couple of wobbles here and there).

The top seed to drop points is Hebden with his draw (him being on a fixed board fooled me into thinking there were only 8 players on 2/2). Fodor (the sixth seed) dropped a whole point. Gormally at 7 bucked the trend and is on 2/2, but Emms and Arkell both had draws. Richard Pert and Tan are on 2/2, while Ward (12th seed) dropped a half point.

To round out the survey of the top 22 seeds (who you might have expected to be on 2/2 with a field of 86), Palliser drew twice, Wells, Houska, Eggleston and Batchelor on 2/2. Harvey lost (on 1/2) and Kolbus dropped half a point. Claridge-Hansen lost (on 1/2) and Duncan drew twice. The 22nd seed (Akshaya Kalaiyalahan) ran into Mickey Adams in round 2 and is on 1/2.

So exactly half (11) of the top 22 reached 2/2 (is that to be expected?), with three from outside the top 22 gatecrashing the party: Rudd (29th seed), Waddington (66th seed), and Lentzos (67th seed). impressive results from the latter two, both beating much higher-rated opponents (and also Jack beating GM Fodor).

Top board was drawn, Tan is the clubhouse leader on 3/3

Howell has also won to reach 3/3. If Jones can win, I win the prediction round, but it looks tricky.

I may get 3/4 with my draws choice.
