Round 10 in Dubai 1986. That was against Spain (with the alleged assistance of the Soviet Union).

When was the last 4-0 loss, then?

(if indeed there has ever been one)

Something similar happened in 1956 (Moscow) as well -

Soviet Union 4 : 0 England
GM Botvinnik 1 - 0 IM Golombek
GM Keres 1 - 0 Penrose
GM Bronstein 1 - 0 IM Wade
GM Geller 1 - 0 Phillips

I think these were the only times England lost 4-0.

You wouldn't want to be the captain who gives that opposition team sheet to their players; though they rested Keres and Bronstein, who may have been regarded as stronger than Tal and Petrosian at the time (?)

I think we lost 3.5 - 0.5 to Poland not so long ago, but in the European team Chs, which may be significant because we probably didn't have our best team available (though I think it was still a respectable English side).

Cheery topic of conversation, eh? We could have gone back to 1994 when WE beat the Dutch by 3.5-0.5 and took the lead with two rounds to go ..

Don't think there was much "alleged" about it, tbh. Still rankles a bit three decades on :)

Didn't we draw in the last Olympiad with Vietnam?
