I'm looking forward to the opinion of her co-Chairperson.Roger de Coverly wrote: Not a fuss being made by the Commission for Women's Chess though, whose chairman, Susan Polgar, appears to go along with FIDE's decision.

What was said at the Congress about FIDE's financial position?

At Verification Commission, quite a lot. At the GA itself, very little. The Treasurer stated that, following some savage cuts to Commission budgets, and provided the PB refrained in future from capricious overexpenditure, FIDE should be back on an even keel.benedgell wrote:What was said at the Congress about FIDE's financial position?
He even decided on the day that he had suddenly become sufficiently optimistic to cancel his long-announced and overdue plan to make the biggest federations pay their fair share of tournament registration fees. I wondered whether any clued-up delegate might react to that but, given the bombshell nature of the announcement, none did.

Our report on FIDE's precarious financial situation caused a bit of a stir and was mentioned by the FIDE treasurer at the start of his report for the General Assembly. However, it seems that very little has been done regarding our recommendations.
The General Assembly approved everything: the treasurer’s report, his proposal to amend the financial regulations, the report of the external auditors Ernst & Young for the financial year 2015, the report of the Verification Commission. The treasurer was discharged from his obligations for the financial year 2015, and Ernst & Young, Switzerland was re-appointed as external auditors for the year 2016.
At the Baku Olympiad, Ilyumzhinov talked around the question of FIDE's current financial situation. When asked if the organization is bankrupt, he would only reply that it was nearing bankruptcy when he took over as president in 1995.

This is a pointless piece of journalism, apparently written by someone who wasn't there. They say that the Treasurer's proposal to amend the financial regulations was approved, but fail to mention that it was radically different from the one on the Agenda.Mick Norris wrote:Our report on FIDE's precarious financial situation caused a bit of a stir and was mentioned by the FIDE treasurer at the start of his report for the General Assembly. As to the President's view, I imagine the limit of his detailed knowledge is that some of his chits for personal expenses are getting bounced back.

There's now quite a bit of comment on that blog, more so than here.Roger de Coverly wrote: A well known blogger has already asked that question of FIDE.

I don't think either of the two plausible UK players actually qualified, so neither the ECF nor Chess Scotland have to take a position if they don't want to.
There's a wiki article with a list of qualifiers
