Does that come as any surprise? I doubt the IOC or any other world sporting body would award one of its world events to a country where women were expected to compete wearing a headscarf, never mind trousers and a long sleeve shirt.

It would be interesting see some of the WGMs in Iranic-Islamic attire!

Indeed. It's like saying that it would be interesting to see Iranian female players in bikini attire. Sensibilities work both ways.

Come on Soheil - you just can't say that sort of thing and not expect to be pinged. To be fair, you should apologise.

PS And don't ask what "pinged" means. Look it up yourself. Then apologise.

Between 1999 and 2012, the world beach volleyball governing body insisted its female players dressed in bikinis/swimsuits. This was quite controversial amongst players not from countries like Iran. It must have been viewed incredibly negatively in somewhere like Iran.

The reason was apparently to have one standard attire, but no one seemed to believe it.

I'd hope not! To be honest, most of those adjectives above would come over as really quite creepy. Intriguing/unusual/curious/amusing might not be quite so bad.

I guess amusing would feel like it was trending into sarcasm.

Presumably they just won't be able to enter. Which is a pretty good reason it shouldn't be held there really.
(I'm not sure how strong the Israeli women are but their men are obviously very strong.).

I think there are two sides to this argument. Iran is a country that is changing and becoming more open and engaged with the West. For instance, I believe Farsi is the fourth most used language on the Internet. I understand that people have reservations about playing in Iran, but it is also an opportunity to improve understanding and cooperation on both sides.

Really? That’s interesting. Do you have a source?
