The opening ceremony for this is Christmas Day but it properly starts on Monday 26 Dec with the Rapid Round 1 advertised start at 3pm local time which would be 6pm UK time. As you would expect its a star studded field in both the men's and the women's events. There will be many people putting a few quid on Gunina for the women's rapid I shouldn't wonder.

Probably a better bet than re-runs of the usual Xmas films on the telly. My lot have already declared that "there's nothing to watch". Funny that - with 200+ channels, sky box sets, netflix, etc. Without wishing to sound like a grumpy old man - I'm sure we all sat in a room and watched the Bond film, Where Eagles Dare, etc... and managed to spend the holidays together in the same room.

At present we seem to have managed to spread-out so that no two people are in the same room ...
