Certainly. but if the Bishop can be regrouped to g7, no more so than in the family of Kings Fianchetto defences. It also blocks the white square attack on h7 from the Bishop on c2 and a Queen on d3 or h5.

Erm, 9.Nd5, losing a pawn. You don't need us to tell us that, surely.

Checking some games where this has been played, 10 Bxf6 looks necessary. Losing a pawn for "nothing" also seems OK with 10. exd5 Qa5 and now 11. c3 Qxd5 12. Bxf6 Qxd1 13. Rxd1 gxf6. Engines like Nc2 or Nc4 and claim the position to be about equal.

9. Nc4 is the main line in terms of popularity.

Does a small mistake really matter when you win the game anyway ? To play the best move every time, you would have to play like a powerful engine ( or Magnus.)

I just wanted to resign in the game after 9...Qa5+.
But I could've played 10.Bxf6 Qxf6 11.Qxd5, when his structure would be weak without compensation in the form of two Bishops, right?
As the game continued , my two Bishops turned very strong I think.

Hi.
Could I win?

I got only the 4thh prize and a few rating points.....
So sorry, but both men and women champions are now in their teens (while many strong players didn't participate)

7...f6 looks dubious; it looks safer to go ...Nh6 first, castle, and only then attack the centre with ...f6.

From the typical turgid position of a main line Caro, you won a pawn and went into a Rook ending which turned out to be drawn in practice. Looking for improvements in the Rook ending would seem the logical study point. I think I would have played more cautiously with 31. b3 rather than 31. b4 and looked to park a Rook on f5 with the threefold purpose of defending both f2 and h5 and attacking f7.After that, then slowly try to use the queen-side pawn majority keeping the opposing rook or rooks as passive as possible.

40 Rh7 dropping the f pawn and to a lesser extent swapping the active rook on d5 for the passive one on h8.

Rf7 looks good. You then slide the King across to e3 which frees up the Rook on f7.

Giving away a pawn with check is never good. For that matter R+3 v R+2 all on the same side with the defending King in touch with the queening square is apt to be drawish because pawn exchanges can take you to a drawn R+P v R position. So trading the f pawn for the h pawn isn't marvellous, even if you can.
