Cheating in chess
Re: Cheating in chess
if there was widespread cheating using this method it would explain why no one makes human mistakes anymore in chess and play is like a computer

Re: Cheating in chess
I've yet to find a computer that makes the sort of rubbish moves that I do.Alan Llewellyn wrote:no one makes human mistakes anymore in chess and play is like a computer
I always analyse my games with a computer afterwards and the computer finds what it calls "tactical blunders" (by me or my opponent) in 2/3 of them.
Re: Cheating in chess
I anlyse my games with computers and 90% of the moves are computer moves so it must be who your playing I would estimate my opponents playing at130 ecf are actually playing 100 ecf higher with 90% computer moves like I said if my grade was 129 and you made 2/3 moves blunders then I would rate you at 20 ecf if that I know 20 grade players than play 50% blunders

You could try the alternative hypothesis that your opponents are sufficiently skilful at chess that in many positions they will find the same move as might be suggested by an engine. It's the 1 in 10 where they don't that loses them games.Alan Llewellyn wrote:I anlyse my games with computers and 90% of the moves are computer moves
Re: Cheating in chess
Roger I play the same amount of computer moves as my opponents but I often find myself losing position and rather than passively getting stifled I gamble with a lunged piece in a dubious sac. I assume I am playing a person and they wont see 10 moves 20 plies exactly ahead in a complex position if they are only 116 grade but my assumptions are erroneous for some strange reason(always).

Re: Cheating in chess
Why the grading snobbery? Players are 116 because they get worse than average results (treating "average" as 130 to 140). Given a winning position, they can probably find their way through. It's getting a winning position in the absence of gifts from their opponents that may be their problem.Alan Llewellyn wrote:I assume I am playing a person and they wont see 10 moves 20 plies exactly ahead in a complex position if they are only 116 grade
Re: Cheating in chess
the grade snobbery because before I went into hospital I was getting 2nd places in opens afterwards I had a 93 grade and couldn't beat 110 grade players. Now I was a worse player afterwards but now I would say I am much much better than I was maybe 10000 times better when I got 2nds and 3rds in opens and now I get 0.5/6 in a fide open. and 1.5/5 is my usual sum score including a bye. also when I went into hospital people generally looked 2 or 3 moves ahead afterwards they looked 9 or 10 moves (18/20 plies) directly at my threats. now why the dichotomy.
Re: Cheating in chess
alright lets get to the truth 1995 preston premier under 175 spectrum congress: position 3rd ahead of two 170 grades, 1994 ulverston club championship 2nd ahead of 1 170 grade player, 1996 cumbria county championship runner up ahead of 1 178 grade player and behind a 190. in hospital 1996 grade 153 bcf, then playing again 93 grade.
Re: Cheating in chess
also results against a 120 grade won 24 lost 1 drawn 1 upto going into hospital afterwards won 2 drawn 2 lost 8

Re: Cheating in chess
You showed us that English where you put the Queen on c2 inciting a hit with Nd4 and you were advocating that Kf8 idea in a sharp Pirc. A decent standard of openings is needed in Open tournaments.Alan Llewellyn wrote:now I get 0.5/6 in a fide open. and 1.5/5 is my usual sum score including a bye.
Re: Cheating in chess
the idea behind qc2 was to play qc3 seemingly defending everything after moving the bishop back to g2 and playing d3 and be3 lobbing off the errant knight, it undid the pin on the knight and defended e4 so I could play nd5 but what I didn't realise was after 0-0 and bg2 the Queen is dog meat with the fork. I was just trying to keep hold of my knight on f3 in a closed position and couldn't find the way to effectively do it. h3 was the usual move I make but my bad bishop is left and he has a good knight.
Re: Cheating in chess
kf8 is an interesting idea in the pirc in blitz games I have about 90% record with it on the icc so I naturally wondered if otb it had flaws and could not see a decent line alternative
Re: Cheating in chess
interestingly I showed how the most played moves in those positions even by grandmasters lose by force does that not show opening knowledge

And there's me, having a cataract operation tomorrow. I do hope 'they' don't cheat.
