ECF SE Girls' Rapidplay Championships - Sunday 15th October
Hi all
The ECF south east girls' rapidplay championships is being held at Bromley High School on Sunday 15th Oct.
This ECF event is being organised by Kent Junior chess and the aim is to encourage more young girls to play at chess tournaments and provide a supportive and positive environment. We have a female chief arbiter and some of the team to help provide strong role models for girls to get involved in chess.
Please pass onto any young girls that maybe interested. All welcome, there will be trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
For further details and to register: http://englishchess.org.uk/Juniors/ecf- ... mpionship/
Thanks
Jo

"7) In the Under 8 and Under 10, players are not obliged to record their moves. In all other sections girls must maintain a record of all their moves up to the last five minutes. Where a game is being recorded, the Arbiter must have full view of the scoresheet."
Really? For a rapidplay?

Hi Kevin, thanks for pointing this out, we followed the rules for a previous girls event, but are looking to amend this, as I appreciate recording games isn't a rule in most rapidplay competition.
The idea was to encourage the girls to record their moves if they can, as most chess trainers agree that it helps to slow down their play and improve their games.
Regards
Jo

That is a useful bit of information that makes a great deal of sense!

Will the event be using standardplay or rapidplay rules? Standardplay would make most sense if they're writing their moves down.

I agree. I always record RP games until I have a couple of minutes left, but I am used to recording games.
Anyway, it's your tournament, you can more or less do what you like!

Hi all
Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated and helps us to ensure a good quality tournament, that will hopefully encourage girls to develop their chess.
We have now amended the rules to be in line with rapidplay regulations.
The girls do not have to notate, however as mentioned we will have score-sheets available and try to encourage if they want to.
Please do pass on the details to any young girls that may want to play. It would be great to attract a range of players including different ages and levels of chess.
