White Rabbits
I am informed that "White Rabbits" is a traditional greeting on the first day of each month. When I expressed doubt, I was mocked and told that "everyone knows that". Am I really the only one?

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month. White rabbit pie!

Yes John - I knew that one.
That's a slightly different one Andy. I did google it first!
Either not many people can be bothered to reply, or I'm not as stupid as my friends make out...

I couldn't be bothered to reply.

I didn't bother to reply (which is slightly different) but, Kevin, I had never heard of this before you told me - so thank you!
Re: White Rabbits
I didn't reply because I didn't understand Kevin's question. He asked: "am I the only one (who doesn't know that 'White Rabbits' is said on the 1st of each month)"?
It's the wrong problem. "White Rabbits" is not said on the 1st of every month. It's said on the 1st of March. On the 1st of every other month, one says: "Rabbits" or "Rabbits, Rabbits" by custom.
One does say: "A pinch and a punch for the 1st of the month". And indeed, one can pinch and punch one's nearest and dearest in direct proportion to the affection (or lack thereof) in which you hold them (caution: laws apply). Only then does one say "Rabbits"; or in March, "White Rabbits"
Don't people know anything

"White rabbits" for months with an "R" in, "Rabbits" when there's not.
But you have to say it before speaking to anyone.

Agreed, that's the bit I remember as important.

If you miss this one, you can say "Wild Rabbits" to avoid the worst of the curse

Re: White Rabbits
Except in Portland, Dorset, where saying "Rabbits" is a heinous act, Chas & Dave couldn't get a visa, and, weirdly, it doesn't go down well among the fisherman of the Western Islands.David Robertson wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:07 pmOn the 1st of every other month, one says: "Rabbits" or "Rabbits, Rabbits" by custom.

Re: White Rabbits
My advice is to start each month by saying loudly, and repeating as necessary
"White rabbits, rabbits, wild rabbits!"
