Post Brexit Openings
I have some lovely meal going but time for a little light relief on openings once we leave Europe.
We ought not to play the french, the dutch, the italian game, polish, icelandic, russian, latvian......
I'm happy for the Spanish except the Berlin. After all that was about the time of when we had some crisis that was not about European Union.
I'm also happy about Sicilians as quite a lot of diversity and variety there and I've never seen that as typical Italian.
Plenty of other choice from here and around the world.

Won't this approach result in even more use of the London System?
"The chess-board is the world ..... the player on the other side is hidden from us ..... he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance."

The Scandinavian would revert to the Centre Counter.
The French Defence would revert to the Anglo-Norman Keep

As far as I'm concerned it has never ceased to be the Centre Counter!! Just as the Ruy Lopez remains the Ruy Lopez and the Guioco Piano remains the Guioco Piano (except for the bit that is the Evans Gambit which remains the Evans Gambit).

It looks as though I am going to have to learn the English now!

For some reason I always thought the Scandinavian differed from the Centre counter by whether black’s move 2 was Nf6 or Qxd5?Michael Farthing wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:29 pmAs far as I'm concerned it has never ceased to be the Centre Counter!! That's my view, though I think books that call 1...d5 the Scandinavian tend to lay claim to both moves.

So should we treat foreigners, like GM Aronian for example, who promote the English Opening with suspicion? What's he up to, trying to steal our openings off from us and do what exactly?

I expect a surge in populism, sorry popularity of the "go whistle" opening sequence requiring White to start the game with 1. f3 (thus damaging their own position) then leaving the chessboard, going whistling for a while, hoping for something suddenly to happen in their favor but achieving nothing else than being in terrible zeitnot in a terrible position.

Paolo has nailed it, but for one detail, which will be the draw offer, five seconds before flag fall on move 2, followed by an appeal to the crowd for special treatment for an old imperial power.

I agree with Richard and Justin on Scandinavian. Basically the 2...Nf6 variations that transpose into Icelandic Gambit or Portuguese Variation are banned but transposition into Caro-Kann Panov seem Ok.
Scotch plus Gambit, Welsh and irish seem fine by me. Though I have no idea what some of them are.
Indian defences are fine. London system too though I would not play it.
I'm Ok with foreigners who promote post-Brexit openings, and Paulo's and Paul's comments have made me laugh, but leaving it to 5 seconds may be a bit late!
Some European Flags with some posters on this site and they may have to be banned Post-Brexit.
