When increments were first introduced twenty years ago or more, tournaments using the first model of DGT would add time when the counter reached 40 and sometimes 60. That seemed to change with the introduction of the DGT 2010, probably because the preset for 40/90 + 30 didn't do it that way. This year then, the Reykjavik tournament is using the "original" method.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Thu Mar 08, 2018 4:45 pmIn nearly all the tournaments I have played in which had extra time (including Reykjavik 2017) the clock only added the 30 minutes when one player or other had used up his/her initial time allowance.

Fantastic. Of course the decision came in the middle game, but I thought White was wrong to allow ...c5 unchallenged and play it like a reversed Benoni. Instead I met 4...d4 by 5 b4 in the World Seniors last year and got a decent game against a higher-rated opponent.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Thu Mar 08, 2018 8:55 pmRound 4 result: GM Grigoriants (2½) 2568 0 - 1 IM Haria, Ravi (2½) 2424
I see that Yilmaz is the only player on 4/4 and Hjartarson has beaten Eljanov so the tournament is really wide open now.

Would it be possible for someone to post Ravi's game here? Its not especially easy for me to play through the game on my phone on the official site.

Just looking through the results, how does a Liverpool midfielder get a week off to play chess?

Round 4, courtesy of the chessbomb site.
Moves 29 and 37 by White are flagged as serious errors, although 37 is just one of these -3 to -5 transitions.

Yes - I meant that the 30 minutes was added when the clock decided 40 moves were made (not when time reaches zero) - we do get 30 seconds extra every move as well.
Round 4 was started by the Icelandic Prime Minister, who turned up with a female assistant (and no obvious security) and mingled with the crowd, which probably wouldn't happen in most countries.
A rest day follows, but as 9/3 would be Fischer's 75th birthday, there is a "Fischerrandom" or Chess960 event. As Susan Polgar is in town and she apparently helped him with the rules, maybe she will play.

That's his round 2 win, beating a GM with the Fort Knox.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Thu Mar 08, 2018 11:07 pmIt's also available on the Chessbase website with annotations.

for Chess960 results. It starts at 1pm. A few members of the FischerZ club in Amsterdam have come over for it.

Ravi is performing at 2624 after 6 rounds (according to Chessresults.com), so that's rather good...
The Australian did travel specially. Perth, WA - London, a couple of days to recover, then London - Reykjavik.
Daniel Fernandez beat Alina l'Ami today and his reward is to play Erwin l'Ami! Ravi and he are on boards 6 and 7. 3 pm start if you're bored with the Candidates.
Boards 3, 4 and 8 feature scary juniors - Sarin (who has a scary name) is performing at roughly 2800.

Adhiban has won the tournament. Any news on norms achieved?
