Think that's enough teams for a straight swiss to be likely?

Seeds go, in order (looking at the round 1 pairings): 41-47 white, 48-53 black, 41-47 black, 48-53 white. I don't know where the triangular teams fit into the seedings.

Round 1 pairings as Jack says, with Round 2 pairings assuming all higher-rated teams won their round 1 matches.

Black's odd looking 5. .. g5 isn't as bad as you might think. It's about equal at move 20 when I came up with the appalling Qe1 totally missing Nd7-c5.

After losing a pawn, I offered an exchange sacrifice to get the illusion of an attack. Instead of taking the rook, 25 .. Nc6-d4 is as crushing as it looks.

At move 27, an engine reckons Nxe5 keeps White in the game.

He who makes the last mistake loses as 36. .. Qc2 fell for the Ra1 cheapo. Even after that, 37 .. a5 could be played, as after 38 Rxa5 there's 38 .. Qb1+ followed by 39 .. Qxb7 giving the king some possible defence. If 38 Rxa7 looks simpler than Bxe4 that's because it is. The follow up is 39 Qb6.

I wish you hadn't done that. By the time I got home I had almost convinced myself that this sickening game had been just a bad dream.

Yeah. I did give that some thought, but felt you'd agree that 'public interest' justified the attention. I know how you feel though; and you played OK. Roger has been generous too in his analysis. A decent scrap.

How does that result in a 1st vs 3rd pairing?

Although weaker than previously, Oxford 3 managed to draw with CSC2 and defeat Iceni 1, making for a very satisfactory weekend, and retaining first place on game points.

So Iceni 2 are top of the league. They are a point clear of Oxford 3 (punching well above their weight also) and 2 points clear of Iceni 1.

If Iceni 2 get promoted to Div 3 and Iceni 1 do not - can they simply switch squads or do they have to play their weaker players in Div 3?

Maybe there should be a -80 point rule for these circumstances

If teams from a squad finish in the wrong order, then for purposes of divisions and seedings the following season, they are taken to have occupied the positions they did but in the right order.

(This actually happened a few seasons ago in Division 1, where Barbican 2 finished eighth and Barbican 1 ninth. The following season, Barbican 1 were in the fourth seeding pot and Barbican 2 the fifth.)
