If teams from a squad finish in the wrong order, then for purposes of divisions and seedings the following season, they are taken to have occupied the positions they did but in the right order.

(This actually happened a few seasons ago in Division 1, where Barbican 2 finished eighth and Barbican 1 ninth. The following season, Barbican 1 were in the fourth seeding pot and Barbican 2 the fifth.)
We don't talk about it too often, but in 2013/14, the first team lost its last two matches in the relegation pool and finished eleventh!

It is true that in the following season, 2014/15, the first team was given the higher seeding that the second team had earned in the previous season. But this was not uncontroversial - the Board as a whole was not unanimous that this was the right thing to do.

However, in our case, both teams were staying in the first division anyway. The only question was which pool and as what seed? If at the end of a season, a second team somehow found itself qualified for the division above that of the first team, I think that everyone would agree to a swap around.

It's harsh on the second team players to say that they can only reap the rewards of their good play if their first team also plays well. I can think of no problem for the league if a second team is in a higher division than a first team either.

Rules 2.1 provides the flexibility to allow that to happen. There is no obligation for teams to play on a combined squad basis and so subject themselves to the requirements of the second part of rule 8.3.

So Iceni 2 are top of the league. They are a point clear of Oxford 3 (punching well above their weight also) and 2 points clear of Iceni 1.
If normal Swiss system logic is applied, round 9 will see Iceni 2 v Iceni 1. Iceni 2 cannot play Oxford 3 as they met in round 1 (!), even if that was a triangular match.

If White Rose 2 get relegated from division 2 and elect to drop into Div 3N, there will be 3 promotion spots from Div 4S.

Oxford have played teams 1-5 & 7, so are likely to play 6, 8 & 9 on the final weekend

It will be a great weekend. I played last Saturday v oxford 4 and Camberley juniors. Unfortunate with the Oxford teams defaults but the two juniors were paired in advance so getting a game and feeling part of the team. Oxford 4 managed to get another player out. Anyway CSC 2 have a chance, as do our first team in division 3 south.

Only thing that was worrying was the state of the gents toilets that day. Hopefully not repeated in May.

Yes Nick, unfortunately we had 2 players withdraw the day before due to ill health and proved too short notice to find replacements despite many attempts to do so.

I'm also hoping there won't be a repeat of the lack of parking spaces that occurred on Sunday. Fortunately, my opponent was even later than I was so I didn't lose any time on the clock. He didn't lose as much time as he should have done because the round started late, as usual.

It had happened earlier in the season and on Saturday, the day before. Instead of turning left into the hotel area, you carry straight on and park by the BMW centre a bit further on. It's a shorter walk back, than a drive to.

Business at Wokefield Park must be picking up, which is perhaps why the 4NCL is elsewhere next season.

The standard of parking on the Saturday was abysmal. I have never seen so many cars over lines. But then again if they were all chess players they probably do not put their pawns or pieces in the middle of squares either. We had plenty of time and I was very grateful for a lift.

Is the new venue going to be more or less attractive and will it have sufficient parking spaces?

Is the venue going to be busier on a May bank holiday weekend?

On the issue on where Iceni1 & 2 play next season is it the case that 2 points are relevant? The numbers from 2 going into 3S & the numbers from 3S that may not want to go into 2 in 18/19. Probably why it is at by 31 May scenario. A great battle with 11/12 teams having a chance at the beginning of the last 3 matches.

Looks like three teams (Surbiton, CSC2 and Iceni 1) promoted out of Division 4S with four (Anglian Avengers 2, The Full Ponty, Hackney, West is Best 3) being relegated from Division3S. Also one definite new team, Watford 2, for 2018-19.
