MVL's recent downturn is very much continuing it seems.

I wonder whether missing out on the Candidates twice by narrow margins has taken a little bit of an edge off his game.

Oh, very likely.
But it was already evident in the final Grand Prix tourney when he still had a chance to qualify for the 2018 event.
Hard not to think he has been a bit unlucky, but only one person can ultimately put that right......

Karjakin has 3 pawns for the exchange against Nakamura. Unfortunately for Karjakin the 3 pawns are arranged in an Irish pawn centre. Hard to imagine them lasting long.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

And So draws which gives us a four-way tie for the lead going into the last round.

What's the tie-break rules? Do we have six possible winners still?

Anand's French Exvhange (by transpo) not as successful as Wesley's Slav Exchange from the other day.Caruana beat Anand to join the leading group on 4/7.
Interesting/curious opening choice from Anand. Presumably if he'd wanted an immediate draw he would have trundled down one of the old main lines. Can't imagine it would have been difficult to find one that doesn't burn out right away.
So he just wanted a position, then, and didn't fancy anything they normally try against the Petrov. Or so I assume, anyway

Talking of curious opening choices, I'm a tad surprised the Open Spanish is back in fashion

Magnus drew in 17 moves today. Not like a few years ago, when he played those long endgames.
