Jonathan is now one point ahead of me . We should definitely have frozen the 2017 grades.

You think you have a problem? I'm definitely in favour of reverting to 2017 grades!Paul Cooksey wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 12:33 pmJonathan is now one point ahead of me . We should definitely have frozen the 2017 grades.

I've managed a six point increase. Which rather defies logic as I've been in muppet mode all season.

So the ECF Director lost 8 points, and the person who retired as an ECF Officer gained 6 points. Go figure.

Yes - avoiding administration helps! I'm pleased to have gone up 11, as it will annoy those who say only juniors increase their gradings...

Looks like my really big crash is yet to come (great). You never really know where you are when you play just a handful of games each year, or at least, I never do.
Re: Isn't this the time ...
This is a fantastic achievement. Remarkable. And at your age too. Congratulations!
Where do you find the energy, the commitment, the creativity, the inspiration? And then there's that relentless search for improvement; the stubborn refusal to bow before the Grim Reaper; the optimism...
....to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells

I avoided this fate by playing no games at all. For the first tine since 1999 I have no grade.

Ah - but the first time since 1977, I do have. No surprise, I seem to be rather worse than I was at age 23

Re: Isn't this the time ...
You probably aren't in fact. It's all still there, or mostly; it just needs 'waking up'. Practice may not be sufficient on its own - you'll need to get back studying the game. But, in chess at least, performance decline is a slow process ceteris paribus. What's laid down early, sticks around until deep into old age. Motivation may decline faster though
