Major Open seemingly working fine now albeit I did close and re-open the link to get moves. The odd bogus result showing on a game in progress but nothing more than that from what I can see.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 2:57 pmTotal shambles in the chess24 live games at the moment. Several games shown with results but zero moves. Board 20 assessment White winning but the board showing Black having delivered mate; no moves at all in the Major Open.
Looks like the top 11 championship games are showing normally, below that the chaos starts.
I don't recall anything like this before on chess24, ever.

Re: British Championship
Incidentally, I draw attention to Hawkins v Roberson, not just because White has a useful edge from a French exchange, but also because it appears to be a Cheddleton speciality: both Fodor and team captain Fiona Steil-Antoni played it at the last 4NCL weekend (as the brilliant CHESS reporter observed).
What to make of this? Perhaps players are noticing that White does sometimes grind out the win from the similar positions arising from the Berlin (after 5. Re1) and see too Kramink's early Qe2 v Petroff. These seemingly dry positions are, it seems, being played more and more as White as an attempt just get to a position with a number of pieces left and no forcing lines, with a tiny plus from the extra tempo. They are no longer mainly played to get draws against stronger opposition.

Re: British Championship
Is John Jarmany v Ameet Ghasi really the game played? I find it hard to believe. Perhaps it is a relic from a junior event played this morning on the same DGT board. There are a host of problems on many boards. Not complaining about a free service, just an observation.
EDIT: Now rectified and the actual game is being shown. Thank you to whoever sorted this out. Any chance of getting Kevin Thurlow's game v Rick McMichael up and running?

Re: British Championship
The Major Open has now been restored to health, even the rogue 1-0 on board 3 changed to an early draw.
Although as Martin noted board 20 in the championship has been rectified, there remain gross live game errors of various kinds on boards
12 16 17 19 22 23 25 28 30 and 31 in the British Championship.

Both preferred to transpose into a French Exchange rather than play a man line Petroff.
Magnus played Qe2+ to which Fab replied ... Be6 (better than Roberson’s ...Qe7, I think, although the latter def looks more natural.)
Axel Smith ‘s e3 Poison (2017) recommends giving the French Exchange a punt in general and Qe2+ in particular

18 g4 in Adams v Arkell, a typical "obvious move when you see it" but which only Adams and a few others actually play naturally.

No result showing on chess-results so maybe a board malfunction?Andy Stoker wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:35 pmWhat has happened in Palliser-Jamroz - apparently 0-1 in 8 moves .... phone?! Chess24?!

Not obvious when I see it! Looks very committal unless the knight cannot find a re-route.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:47 pm18 g4 in Adams v Arkell, a typical "obvious move when you see it" but which only Adams and a few others actually play naturally.

Palliser v Jamroz has now been corrected, as have some others.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:51 pmNo result showing on chess-results so maybe a board malfunction?Andy Stoker wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:35 pmWhat has happened in Palliser-Jamroz - apparently 0-1 in 8 moves .... phone?! Malfunctioning live games remain at boards 12, 19, 22, 23, 25 and 28.

Well yes, that is mainly it - no outpost for the knight in the foreseeable future. Also, one when thinks about it. White is not really in danger of being mated here, is he? But still, for most of us (myself included) there is almost a psychological block against even thinking about moving that pawn two squares forward.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:59 pmNot obvious when I see it!
