I've seen 'brevity' used for games under 20 moves. 25 moves is relatively common, which is why some people prefer to focus on games under 20 moves. Some even focus on games under some other number of moves (less than 20). The term 'Short and Sweet' will be familiar to many: see here.

Re: British Championship
Computer doesn't much like Adair's last against Howell. Both sides have queen and two rooks which must be insanely difficult to play.

Well done, Roger. Very convincing game.
No more complaints about having to play underrated juniors?

Any chance of sticking a 2018 on the title to make it easier to identify in future years?Carl Hibbard wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 5:13 pmI will move this whole thread to the ECF section later.

Re: British Championship
I strongly recommend Ward - Derakhshani where the youngster may have blown his best chance by rushing in Ward's time-trouble. Still better, as I write, but awkward now [-1.42 #41]
[later] hhmm...lad needs to work on his R endings. [-0.11 #45]

Board 31 must have finished 1-0 years ago

Fitzsimons - Maroroa is a great game.

Re: British Championship 2018
Among board regulars, Roger is off the mark, Kevin is not and Jack got beat. Keith has a little pawn-up ending he probably shouldn't win but might anyway.

Re: British Championship 2018
Adams may have just blundered (or overpressed based on miscalculating the strength of his passed a-pawn?)! He will be a pawn down in a queen ending. (Probably a false alarm, though Adams may have missed 47. Qe5. in the line 44... Qe7 45. Qxb6 a4 46. Qb8+ Qe8 47. Qe5.)
EDIT: Please don't say board one has frozen? No sign of moves and the clock down to zero for Adams. If there is an upset, it will be really annoying if the live transmission fails to broadcast it. OK, moves coming through again. Adams should lose this, but Fodor failed to find the best moves.

So Adams will probably draw this, but should not Fodor have seen the winning move 46.Qc6?

Do we have a screenfreeze (B41) in that one?
