Well, as one of those who has spent money on a ticket (and Ticketmaster and the organisers have finally got their act together and the tickets are now available to print), I hope AGON do a good job with this event, and that game 8 is a good one!Angus French wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 9:56 amI have a vague recollection of Dvorkovich saying, during his election campaign, something to the effect that next month's AGON-organised World Championship match was a given but there would be a review after that.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 9:42 amMy guess is that something will be said, because it's easy as well as right and because nobody likes AGON. What will actually be done though, is a harder question.
Anyway, my guess is that AGON will be booted out after the World Championship match. There's no reason to keep them. Dvorkovich has a reputation as an organiser and presumably could do much better (including bringing in new sponsors). It would be an easy win.

One question to ask might be whether FIDE can publicly say that the thrity-minute delay, and the general attempt to pointlessly intimidate other media organisations, is not to their liking.
I don't know whether they have the power to tell AGON to desist (I am guessing not, but we're beyond my level of knowledge and competence here) but there's no reason obvious to me why they can't make some kind of a fuss, and if that's so, then they should do it.

A tweet from Agon. Not sure who Agon are accusing of being a hypocrite but Nigel certainly thinks its him.

Or even that the ECF could say it. Presumably to some extent Agon will depend on the ECF's connections to get a VIP turnout.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 4:48 pmOne question to ask might be whether FIDE can publicly say that the thrity-minute delay, and the general attempt to pointlessly intimidate other media organisations, is not to their liking.

As it's replying to Chess24 my working assumption is that it's directed at them. Not sure why Nigel would feel a charge of hypocrisy would suggest he was the target.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 5:09 pmA tweet from Agon. Starting to get nasty now.
Agon "It's not established case law, actually. It's established that chess moves are facts that fall under 'hot news doctrine', just like stock information, for example. As you know, stock information can be delayed for 15 minutes or more."
Chess 24 response "Or we could go by what a US Federal Court actually ruled when you tried to apply the "hot news doctrine" to chess: Court Decision 22 November 2016

There's precedent for the transmission and display of moves in as near real time as the technology can manage, going back to 1978 in Baguio. Delayed relay of share prices on the other hand has an equally long history.chess 24 (quoted by Chris Rice) wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 10:29 pm"Or we could go by what a US Federal Court actually ruled when you tried to apply the "hot news doctrine" to chess:
Delaying live broadcasts only dates from the DGT era as a crude anti-cheating attempt.

Delayed relay happens in most major poker tournaments. I think some chess players are asking for too much for paying too little.

They’re not arguing for delayed relay as an anti-cheating measure though, are they? They’re not proposing to delay their own “exclusive” broadcast - (unsurprisingly, as making the players hang around for half an hour after the game before giving their post game interviews would probably not be popular. Even if a good thing to allow Magnus time to cool down a bit... )

That would be very nice, but I regard it as improbable in the extreme.

I assume that the guy that you know is not I, but I excoriated Agon in my report on the Opening Ceremony.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 4:09 pmGuy I know went to the Candidates, said it was an absolute shambles.
