Why? After all, chess is embedded into Chelsea's ground.

Curious location
Why on earth would the Russian president of the 2018 FIFA World Cup organising committee want to arrange a meeting at one of England's and the world's premier football clubs owned by a fellow Russian?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Here's the big question (easy for serious Chelsea fans). Can you date the photograph in the right-hand corner of the picture?

Nigel tweeted on 9 Nov:
"A quiet revolution is taking place in FIDE. Roughly one third of the commissions, and almost one third of the commissioners, were axed today. This was a necessary change, but nevertheless quite breathtaking."

So which commissions and commissioners have gone and why? Can't see any news story on the FIDE website.

So now we know that Mark Glukhovsky is a Richard Dawkins fan boy (not a bad thing, but not what I had expected to learn).

Does anyone know if Richard Dawkins has more history than this with chess?

The tweet from Nigel Short with Richard Dawkins:

An official FIDE press release on the Presidential meeting of 8-9 November 2018.

In addition, to that Emil Sutovsky mentioned on FB that "FIDE has opened an access for everyone to check all the rating data on all the players. Now you can trace it back to year 2001, with the detailed description for every rating period." Sure enough going into the rating page on the FIDE site you no longer need to set up a login and can check your data immediately.

Congratulations to Nick Faulks, who has been appointed as Chairman of the FIDE Qualification Commission.

If that means he'll be following a code of silence here from now on I'll always remember his parting words -

Except on confidential matters, Nick didn't feel constrained about commenting when he was QC Secretary. I don't see why his appointment as Chairman should change that.

If there was to be a cull of Commissions, it doesn't seem to have happened.

Other points that may be worthy of mention:

"To allow the FIDE President to sign any documents which financially engage FIDE for any amount of under 50,000 Euros."

"To appoint Arkady Dvorkovich and Emil Sutovsky as new members of the FIDE-World Chess Interface."

"To approve the decision which requires the FIDE President to establish a paid task force for review of all FIDE regulations that would work on a permanent basis to check completeness and consistency of all FIDE docs."

"To create the Global Strategy Commission and to acknowledge the FIDE President’s decision to appoint Mr. Emil Sutovsky as chairman."

"To acknowledge the FIDE President’s decision to appoint Jacob Aagard as chairman of Trainers’ Commission." [I am a big fan of Aagard's chess books]

"To acknowledge the FIDE President’s decision to create the FIDE Management Board that would combine all key members of the Executive. The list of MB members appointed by the President is attached."

"To approve the title recommendations by the following commissions: QC, ARB, CIS, TEC and EVE."

"To settle the CAS case between Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and FIDE as soon as possible. " (!!)

"To introduce and execute a non-disclosure agreement for PB members, Executive Directors and other FIDE staff. "

"To maintain the FIDE Office in Moscow in perpetuity while attempting to minimize FIDE expenses."

[Can anyone explain these abbreviations, please (or point to a glossary): ARB, TRG, QC, RC, CIS, TEC, EVE.]

Some of the above decisions may have far-reaching (and as yet unclear) consequences.
