Can anyone explain to me the relevance of the photo to the announcement here?
https://www.englishchess.org.uk/an-open-and-shut-case/
It just looks like a wintry scene where nothing much is happening. I can't see a chess connection
A trivial question, although I'm sure some will find a way to turn it into a serious debate

You sure about that?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

No, that's why I asked! Is it a scene from a film which I haven't seen?

I too was bemused by the photo and when I saw your post I thought I'd dig a bit deeper (by which I mean I Googled the photo). Apparently the photo contains a Star Wars reference (I assume the big thing that looks vaguely like a knight's head, though I could be wrong). This link has more details:

Thanks, it makes more sense now - I did do an uninformative 30 second search on Google before my first post. Not being a Star Wars fan all I could think of was King Kong which didn't seem right and the "big thing" looked rather amorphous in any case!

This is often the case with photos on the ECF site.

Also 'announcement' rather than 'annoucement'?
Indeed
