Week 20

An extremely curtailed report folks. We need to look on Page Two for both the top and bottom scoring teams. Steven Smith with the former on 89 points whilst Matt Paynes "The Keita Success" wasn't; with just 26 points. Places 2-4 are covered by just three points.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 57 1321
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 46 1278
3 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 74 1277
4 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 49 1276
5 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 67 1238

Up for the Cup We've lost Nick London and Phil Makepeace - six managers survive into the Week 21 draw.

Week 21

‘Nobody gives us much of a chance and quite rightly so. But it’s great for our supporters Nigel Clough
Burton Albion lost 9-0 and hundreds of their supporters were stuck on the M6 after the police closed the motorway to deal with a lorryload of illegal immigrants.

Week 21 and 68 of our 77 team league have passed the 1,000 point marker. In last position is Tom Thorpe who again posted the low score of the week with 30 points; also equalled by Lawrence Cooper. An 86 point haul for Richard Dineley is the best tally of the week. Other than that just a slight shuffle of the top five.

1. Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 64 1385
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 65 1341
3 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 56 1333
4 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 43 1321
5 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 50 1288

Up for the Cup We lost three more teams in Week 21 so as we go into Week 22 the remaining managers are Mark Leonard, Joe Friar and Adam Bremner.

That news is definitely the icing on the cake this evening after losing a 4NCL player through illness and having to navigate the lengthy diversion at 22:05-22:20 to reach Long Buckby station

I didn't mention that with 30 points you were one of the managers eliminated from the Cup - just another slice of iced cake! :)

Week 22

I take responsibility for everything David Wagner.

So the Huddersfield boss ambles off into the twilight leaving the Terriers firmly fixed at the foot of the Premiership. Despite the availability of Sam Allardyce et al early indications are that yet another European manager is going to be shuffled in. Talking of shuffling no change in the Top Five except that third and fourth placed teams swap positions. Bully's prize board with 80 points for John Peters whilst the bus fare home goes yet again to Tom Thorpe with a miserable 24 points.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 58 1443
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 59 1400
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 77 1394
4 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 49 1382
5 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 77 1365

Up for the Cup Our three intrepid remaining teams from Week 21 all won in Week 22 so move on into the next draw.

Week 23

I love my job, I love my job. And of course I love a big challenge Mauricio Pochettino

Spurs were eliminated from two cups in five days and with an injury/absentee list longer than a till roll at Aldi and no sign of a new stadium their challenge is faltering. In Premier Chess very little to report although several players scored 80+ points - the top five are the same we've had for some weeks with Robert Ashworth top scorer of the week with 86 pts making progress to 4th place. A mediocre 32 points from Mitchell Burke was the League low point.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 52 1495
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 79 1479
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 64 1454
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 86 1451
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 69 1447

Out of the Cup Our last three representatives were ousted in Week 23 so our interest in the Cup has ended (something like Spurs, Everton and several other teams)!

Week 24

“Of the Premier League’s total expenditure in 2018/19, 72 per cent related to players acquired from overseas Deloitte sports analyst Tim Bridge

Well the January transfer window turned out to be a non-event. We find that Newcastle were the top spenders bringing in Miguel Almiron (who?) for £20 million and none of the top six teams signing anyone eligible to play in the Premier League. As for Week 24 it might have been the best of times but for those of us relying on Liverpool, Manchester United/City and Chelsea players it was the worst of times as all these teams stuttered against lesser opposition. Consequently we look well down the table for James Friar who top scored with 78 points whilst plumbing the depths was Alex Bullen on 24 points. The top five were again unchanged.

1. Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 65 1556
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 47 1526
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 44 1498
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 41 1492
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 47 1490

Time for a leader update Toni Haapanen (Finland) leads for a 8th successive week and he has been in first or second position since Week 10 - current points 1695.

Week 25

"The only tool we really have to sort our situation is football and is passion and a proper fight Jurgen Klopp.

What a disaster last week was! For some reason I thought the double Man City match was this week and rushing out to take the equipment to a county match I didn't check properly. The result was that my three players on the bench scored almost as many as my 11 players on the field. At least I didn't manage the low score of the week (Dave Ledger with 35 points) but was way off the high score which was a superb 116 from Michael Ashworth. Special mention for Steven Smith and Samuel Watts who also hit a three figure score. No changes at the top but Mark Leonard lost ground to all his main challengers. Is his time at the top ending?

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 47 1603
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 71 1597
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 92 1586
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 78 1570
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 51 1541

Good News! Our backmarker Tom Thorpe at last hits the 1,000 mark - unfortunately his progress, or lack of it, is still downwards and he falls to 5,275,125th place.

Week 26

I like very much to read novels. I like very much some writers. Maurizio Sarri - a man who will have plenty of time to read after this week!

There was no change (again) in the top five -little surprise as only nine points separated their scores. Making ground with 86 points was Andrew Garside whilst losing touch with a mediocre 28 points was Mark Page

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 62 1665
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 53 1650
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 57 1643
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 59 1629
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 58 1599

Overall A new leader has emerged with Joel Tesfai (Sweden) taking over with his team Sandeslätt United **. Only two of the top ten managers are from England though I doubt that 10th place Andrew Green is really from the Central African Republic.

Week 27

Of course, it's a big disappointment at the end Claude Puel

As the ex-Leicester manager disappears into the sunset, we find a Chelsea goalkeeper who refuses to go anywhere. Several managers were caught out by the reduction to eight fixtures - Ben Edgell managed just eight points - whilst surprisingly Alex Bullen scored a mind boggling 72 points. Closer inspection however shows that to achieve that score Alex used 15 transfers - thus his overall score was a mere 20 points. Maybe a "Wild Card" would have been a better option? The top five maintain their positions - no hint of a challenge yet.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 45 1710
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 53 1696
3 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 35 1685
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 44 1673
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 34 1629

Meanwhile Another change overall with Hossam CheLSawy now in the hot seat with 1877 points.

Week 28

If you are a loser in this sport, you are a loser also in life Claudio Ranieri - clearly earmarked as a loser in life!

Well as one door shuts another opens - so goodbye Claudio and welcome back Brendan. Locally could it also be goodbye to the world's oldest club as HMRC issue a winding-up order against Notts County in the week where club owner Alan Hardy's design company goes into administration? There was remarkable symmetry this week with very few high scores and equally very few low scores. The top five teams remarkably were separated by just eight points so once again no movement. Mitchell Burke's five defenders scored 75 of the 88 points accrued in this week's top score whilst James Hanley showed it wasn't as easy as ABC when his side low-scored with 30 points.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 49 1759
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 48 1744
3 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 53 1734
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 57 1730
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 54 1683

Up for the Cup Mark Leonard, our last hope, was defeated in Week 23 whilst his conquerors went out the following week. We've followed the winners there HenryRip through to week 28 when they were k.o'd by Bombay Stars. We'll see how far they can progress in due course,

Week 29

"It's this club, it's what we do, that's Manchester United." Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Solskjaer has now won 14 out of 17 games in all competitions, his only defeat coming against PSG at Old Trafford in the first leg of the Champions League. At one time United looked doubtful to finish in the top four but since the exit of Mourinho their progress has been remorseless. In Premier Chess another week of mediocrity with Hendrick Hoffman's One-Legged Men hopping up to 64 points whilst Tom Thorpe's Chess Army could only shuffle to 19 points and moved downwards for the 15th time in 19 weeks. At the top Robert Ashworth makes a big move forward.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 34 1793
2= Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 55 1785
2= It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 41 1785
4 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 31 1765
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 55 1738

Week 29 New overall leader Keita Pie becomes the first team to hit 2000 pts!

3rd Quarter Report - Weeks 20-29

When I said in the 2nd quarter report "As we're only midway through the season there's still time for a challenger to emerge" I thought that someone might come out of the pack to challenge the teams at the top. However just like the Premier League, the top sides have carried on regardless and there have only been five teams in the top five places for the whole of the quarter. Mark Leonard's grasp of Number 1 spot looked tenuous at times but nevertheless he maintained his position for the whole ten weeks. It remains to be seen which one of his rivals in the last quarter can overtake the team that has now held Number One position for 22 consecutive weeks.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 50 pts (10)
2 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 34 pts (10)
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 33pts (10)
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 19 pts (10)
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 15 pts (10)

Week 30

My computer’s got the ‘Pickford Virus’. It can’t save anything. That was one of football's funniest jokes (honest)!

Top result of the week from Grant Bucher with his Olympic Mayonnaise team scoring 81 pts. Luckily I just managed to avoid the low score which went to Joe Friar who got stuck in some deep fat to manage just 28 points. The top teams press on remorsely - unless someone can launch a charge they will fight out the Premier Chess Championship amongst themselves - just 34 points separate 1st and 5th. Champions League draw tomorrow and there must be some all-Premier clashes. Team rotation is still the order of the day so it's impossible to second guess who might turn up on the field.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 45 1838
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 39 1824
3 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 36 1821
4 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 51 1816
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 66 1804

Overall 14 teams have now hit the 2000 pt mark - the long time leader Toni Haapanen now out of the top 10.
