Up and down match, but got there in the end. Adams 0, McShane 0.5, Howell 1, Jones 1.
Not often that Adams loses in the 3 Nd2 French.

Round 1 report from Peter Doggers. Adams loss is one of the featured games. Azerbaijan next for England.

Re: World Teams 2019
Round 2 very much in the balance. England currently 0.5-1.5 down but chances to win both Whites (McShane & Jones). Possibly the fact that games start fairly early is hurting interest?

More likely lack of awareness. Nothing on the ECF website and until Leonard's post yesterday I had no idea of the dates. Watching now though.

It looks like we are going to do it. The form of the Olympiad continues!
The only concern will likely be that the last time Adams lost two consecutive games (Dresden 2008) he preferred to rest the next game instead of playing Russia. Presumably he would be White in the next game though, and to my eye he has not been playing all that badly - though admittedly the errors and excuses that I would allow myself do not necessarily cut it at this level!

Next round is USA, admittedly USA 2 given the absence of their top players.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:00 pmThe only concern will likely be that the last time Adams lost two consecutive games (Dresden 2008) he preferred to rest the next game instead of playing Russia.
If Eygpt and Sweden can be regarded as the tournament "bunnies", they aren't faced until rounds 7 and 9.

You are forgetting the 2009 European Team when I was captain He rested in round 1 (Luke losing to Monaco!) and then lost to Radjabov and Topalov before a run of draws (starting with white v Bacrot) and a last round win.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:00 pmIt looks like we are going to do it. Ah yes. it may matter that he has White next, I guess. I remember the Topalov game - that was when Luke beat Cheparinov in 20 moves and Delchev tried to conceal the fact that his phone went off, right?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:17 pmYou are forgetting the 2009 European Team when I was captain He rested in round 1 (Luke losing to Monaco!) and then lost to Radjabov and Topalov before a run of draws (starting with white v Bacrot) and a last round win.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:00 pmIt looks like we are going to do it. 2.5-1.5 with wins from McShane and Jones. (And yes, USA beat China).

England in the bronze medal position after two rounds.
Savour the moment, it may not last.

I don't remember that, what was all that about?Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:41 pm

I played Delchev once with my hands covered in Tippex.

Re: World Teams 2019
Moments into the round a mobile was heard. It wasn't immediately obvious where it came from, it rang a second and maybe even a third time by which an army of arbiters had appeared and the search was narrowed down to the Bulgarian boards three and four. From memory they searched the board four's coat first and then Delchev's, at which point they found the phone. On being satisfied that it had made the offending noise he was defaulted.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 4:39 pmI don't remember that, what was all that about?Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:41 pm
