Re: World Teams 2019
and one second after writing that, Andreikin played ...Nh5, turning a defensible (SF) position into a lost one (SF).

Andreikin in trouble so even that might not be enough. If India win then they should be congratulated, it won't take away from an impressive event for England (if they get over the line against Sweden of course)!

Panic over - Andreikin's opponent immediately returned the favour. I tend to think that Russia will not lose now.

SF keeps saying + 2 for Ganguly but it is far from easy for a human to untangle himself without blundering.

A win for David (whose opponent generously allowed mate) and Mickey in complete control at the time control. Attention turns to Grischuk's game although it's worth noting that Nepomniachtchi is still fighting somehow...

Win for Mickey must be imminent - will Gawain immediately agree a draw then?

Luke's game is presumably drawn and Gawain could take an immediate draw or grind on with little risk.Thomas Rendle wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:42 amA win for David (whose opponent generously allowed mate) and Mickey in complete control at the time control.

Knowing Gawain he'll continue pushing while he feels he has chances to win - it's an opposite coloured bishop ending after all!

This is where the chessbomb Stockfish suggests they might go. A couple of key points would seem that the White King has to stay on the Kingside to cover the h5-h4 idea. Also that it was possible earlier to allow White to play Be8xh5, presumably because the a and b pawns were too fast.
(edit) None of that happened of course. White moved his King to the centre and then lashed out with f4. That allowed Gawain a King side break with .. h4. (/edit)

Nepo draws

Win for Gawain, draw for Nepo, so England get silver unless Grischuk somehow loses

This result should be on the TV evening national news. Who's the ECF publicity director again?

India now seem likely to lose a match they looked like winning a bit earlier, while China need to draw the last game to clinch a win. Would that outcome give them bronze?

LOL, I'm not quite sure it'll overshadow the latest Brexit developments but yes, it's worth a minor news item in the quality national media. Congratulations to the team who I suspect probably wouldn't have been considered, before the event started, favourites for the silver medals.Ihor Lewyk wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:12 amThis result should be on the TV evening national news.
