England's highest rated player
In the live ratings, due to draws and losses in the Bundesliga by Mickey Adams and David Howell, the new number one for England is Gawain Jones (currently at his highest ever rating of 2698).
Is this the first time Gawain has been number one in the ratings for England (live or published)?
(For the record, in the April 2019 FIDE rating list, Howell was number 37 in the world at 2701, Adams was number 40 at 2698 and Jones was number 41 at 2698; with the same number of games for Adams and Jones, I presume the order there was done alphabetically?)
[All we need now is for Matthew Sadler and Luke McShane to play more often! Is this unlikely to happen?]

Re: England's highest rated player
2700chess (the live ratings site) appear to have the wrong result for today's game between Howell and McShane. According to Chess24, that was a win for Howell.
Also they are not taking into account Adams's two wins in the previous round of the Bundesliga, which were not included in the 1st April FIDE Rating List.
Until these issues are sorted out, speculation as to the current ranking order of England's top players is rather speculative.

Oh. Thanks for spotting that, David. I seem to have jumped the gun here.
My opinion of 2700chess has gone down a bit now!
[Part of me does wonder how much the players themselves find the prospect of all being around the same rating for the next few months - daunting, exciting, motivating, irrelevant, an unnecessary distraction?]

The reason why I had reservations regarding FIDE's recent experiment in publishing "live ratings" was that information on the FIDE site is viewed as definitive and alterations are a serious matter. 2700chess is in a position to race to the presses and any errors can simply be erased.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 11:13 pmMy opinion of 2700chess has gone down a bit now!

If players are tied on rating, the one who has played the most games in the rating period is placed higherChristopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 8:34 pm(For the record, in the April 2019 FIDE rating list, Howell was number 37 in the world at 2701, Adams was number 40 at 2698 and Jones was number 41 at 2698; with the same number of games for Adams and Jones, I presume the order there was done alphabetically?)

What you say is true, but it's not 2700chess's fault that the Budesliga didn't submit their March results for the 1st April FRL.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 11:50 pmThe reason why I had reservations regarding FIDE's recent experiment in publishing "live ratings" was that information on the FIDE site is viewed as definitive and alterations are a serious matter. 2700chess is in a position to race to the presses and any errors can simply be erased.
I would have thought that that was a matter for you. The Regulations state quite clearly that leagues have to submit results on a month by month basis and the 4NCL does so conscientiously.

I can't immediately think of a sensible edit, so I'll leave my original post as it is.

Re: England's highest rated player
The April 2019 list gave them as playing the same number of games (13) in that rating period. (David Sedgwick has pointed out elsewhere in this thread that Mickey played other games that were not included in that rating list.) The official Bundesliga site shows David Howell as having won his game against Luke McShane (Chessbomb froze at move 46 and initially showed it as a draw but now showing as a win for David Howell).Mick Norris wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 8:12 amIf players are tied on rating, the one who has played the most games in the rating period is placed higherChristopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 8:34 pm(For the record, in the April 2019 FIDE rating list, Howell was number 37 in the world at 2701, Adams was number 40 at 2698 and Jones was number 41 at 2698; with the same number of games for Adams and Jones, I presume the order there was done alphabetically?)

Re: England's highest rated player
Can anyone actually shed any light on this? Like, which games have been (or will be) officially rated and which have not?
(Gawain Jones got a good result in Reykjavik and has a live rating of 2701.8, Howell has a live rating of 2697.8, Adams has a live rating of 2692.7, but two games may not have been counted apparently.)
If Gawain gets a published rating of over 2700, will this be the first time all the top four members of the England team have had ratings over 2700 at some point in their career? Next target, to field a team with four 2700+ players!
