On the new site I can't find any of the entry details/conditions for ECF Club of the Year. I can find the list of previous winners and articles about previous winners (via the 'more from the ECF' tab) but nothing about how to enter. This used to be on the old site - where has it vanished to??

Carl - just out of interest what CMS would you have recommended?

It's hard to do a WordPress site that doesn't just scroll down the screen blog like and I use WordPress!

I am not sure Michael without knowing the level of the operator?

Squarespace does looks interesting - thank you.

I'm sure there are a lot of WordPress themes for business and organisations now though, and I'll be interested to see what becomes of the ECF site after conversion to WordPress.

Personally I've been using the Textpattern CMS for the last few years. It's extremely flexible, quick to build a site and very handy for developers. It's great for small & medium size sites - for example http://www.hendonchessclub.com, http://www.kingstonchess.org.uk and http://www.buca.org.uk - but I've never used it for large sites. JU re: PCI DSS. – I recall PM-ing you about this in 2008. The implications depend on whether you go seriously for compliance or accept the downside. Compliance will involve work and/or employing specialists with time and finance implications, whereas not doing so could have implications such as fines and termination of the ECFs ability to take payment by card services, if you hit a future processing issue. The worst scenario is I suppose – you put this in without fully considering PCI DSS – it becomes very successful taking payments by CC wherever possible – when the ECF are thoroughly reliant on it you hit an issue and the ability to take payments by CC is withdrawn by the card companies.

JP – I meant governance (small g) committees to be the IT committee and whoever looks after DPA and information security, rather than your Governance ( capital G) committee.

whilst we are discussing content managements systems, I have been using drupal:
http://drupal.org/
Its advantage is that almost any aspect is configurable, but that is perhaps also its downside, in that there is a lot to learn, if you want to configure all those things.

Drupal is also a good solution. The migration work is proceeding having had authority from the Manager of IT. The SSL cert has been ordered but not deployed.

I hope that enabling https will encourage thoughts of allowing new memberships on-line, and at the very least, renewals.

I hope that we will repatriate the hosting from the Hey Joes outfit sooner rather than later!

One small issue, by clicking "more" on the left sidebar, I appear to have mysteriously gone to: "http://andreww.myzen.co.uk/?page_id=27"

The new website is very good and it is much easier to navigate to the grading database. Thanks to everyone involved. Anyone know who the 2 chess players are at the very top of the website?

All credit for the new site should go to Andrew Walker who migrated the Joomla! version to WordPress.

The shop is the work of both Kirstie and Andrew and I thank them for them their speedy turnround on this.

It's faster I have to agree but the "look and feel" is still that of a blog and hence "wrong" in my opinion!
