Re: Semi finals 2019
In the outstanding match Essex beat Cornwall so the U180 is Middlesex v Lancs; Essex v Warwicks.
The semi-finalists are MCCU 10; SCCU 9; NCCU 5; EACU 3 & WECU 1.

Re: Semi finals 2019
Yorks won against Middlesex by 10.5 - 5.5 in the OPEN section...at Spondon.
There were some match defaults again.. notably in the U180 section..
I guess Suffolk couldn't handle being in the Semis in both the U180 & U160 sections.
Also, it could be that travel issues played a part. Traveling from Ipswich to Bristol would be a fair hike
Quite why Warwickshire defaulted against Yorks in the U180 section, we can only wait and see.

It was the minor counties rather than U180 and the venue would have been near Basingstoke.David Pardoe wrote: βSat Jun 08, 2019 8:33 pmYorks won against Middlesex by 10.5 - 5.5 in the OPEN section...at Spondon.

Re: Semi finals 2019
Surrey beat Manchester 11.5 - 4.5 in the open section
Venue was held at the Greenlands chess venue in Birmingham and this sun up the match from the Surrey captain
Hi John just back-many thanks for the arrangements and a very sporting match and I have to say that the score line is far too flattering to us- although after Threehours play we were two ahead it looked likely that weβ d scrape through with 9 or so but certainly 11.5 To 4.5 is a harsh out turn and Iβd say that it was a close well fought match. Two of your players had very good wins and there were good holds by your board 15 and board 8. Please pass on my message to Alan Walton-it was nice for me to meet up with him again!! By the way I thought the venue was excellent as were the boards and pieces and Tony had set up everything for us- and was clearing away so efficiently with his assistant-Tony is such a nice guy. The venue should definitely be highlighted by ECF and SCCU for future use!!
Owen.

Points noted.. And Basingstoke is still a 5 hour round trip from Ipswich.. a long day.Jon Underwood wrote: βSat Jun 08, 2019 9:58 pmIt was the minor counties rather than U180 and the venue would have been near Basingstoke.David Pardoe wrote: βSat Jun 08, 2019 8:33 pmYorks won against Middlesex by 10.5 - 5.5 in the OPEN section...at Spondon.

Re: Semi finals 2019
A generous report, but the team sheet shows what Manchester need to aspire to if they are to mount a serious challenge. WE could do it if we could get the top players to turn out. And theres no doubting the quality of this event at this stage. And the winners now face the mighty Yorkshire. What better incentive do players want than these sort of matches at this stage of the season when 4NcL has gone to sleep for the summer!!John Reyes wrote: βSat Jun 08, 2019 10:06 pmSurrey beat Manchester 11.5 - 4.5 in the open section

Well done to you John for trying hard to get out a team for this event this year after a few years layoff.. and well done to the team for grafting away valiantly. How can we raise awareness that this is a seriously good event and worthy of greater support.
Heres the match sheet for those interested https://ecflms.org.uk/lms/node/37971/efixtures

This brought a wry smile. Kettering is 250 miles and 5.5 hours from Plymouth on a summer Saturday. One way.David Pardoe wrote: βSat Jun 08, 2019 10:15 pmPoints noted.. Re: Semi finals 2019
As would be the trip from Bolton to Brighton... this is easier, I suppose, in the 4NCL because of overnight stays.

I doubt that Brighton would be a popular choice of venue nonetheless.David Pardoe wrote: βSun Jun 09, 2019 10:54 amAs would be the trip from Bolton to Brighton... this is easier, I suppose, in the 4NCL because of overnight stays.

Re: Semi finals 2019
The Under 180 will consist of two matches only, provided the final takes place.
In the quarter finals, Lancs and Middlesex had byes, Yorks defaulted to Warks whilst Essex beat Cornwall.
In the semi finals, Middlesex and Warks defaulted to Lancs and Essex.
I would have thought the number of match defaults this season suggests thinning out the competition. So amalgamate the Minor and Under 180, the U160 and U140, the U120 and U100. Thus 4 competitions instead of 7.

You might think that was the most difficult of all logistically. Well done to both teams and captains.
