Indeed, Roger, as I said, belt and braces or fullback in the event of not being able to use the software either at all or partially. One issue might be power failure, for instance, or loss of network connection. Or the inability to share the data, as experienced. Or the use of the software by people for the first time. Other fallback situations are easily conceivable.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 11:19 am
Some like to have pairing cards at their disposal. One of the bigger points of potential failure is printers, they run out of ink, paper or just sulk. With pairing cards, pairings can be transcribed from the pairing program and published without needing to write them longhand should there be a printer issue.
Some other situations where pairing cards might be useful would be:
- transition from manual pairings to automated pairings
- teaching Swiss pairings
- writing a guide or book to Swiss pairings or, indeed, Swiss Manager or other pairing software
- self-education
- idle curiosity
- testing the software - does it produce the same output as a test suite
- testing oneself - are my pairings the same?
I am sure that others can complete the list.
