the knockout format taking a bit of a hammering in the player interviews, as they all admit they play with minimum risk in game 2 and prepare for playoffs

The only decisive classical games were round 1 MVL & Shak, round 2 MVL, semi-finals MVL & Shak; final stats on MondayPaul Cooksey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 3:49 pmthe knockout format taking a bit of a hammering in the player interviews, as they all admit they play with minimum risk in game 2 and prepare for playoffs
Apart from 5 points for reaching the final, this gives MVL an extra 3 points and Shak an extra 2
GP leaderboard
Grischuk 10 from 2 events
Nepo 9 from 1
MVL 8 from 1
Shak 7 from 2
Either MVL or Shak will get extra points for winning the final

Not clear how MVL is going to get anything today ( or Shak, but he doesn't care ). May just fizzle.

Four draws followed by wins for black so all square again and the armageddon game to follow with MVL white.

Sadly we won't get a concluding report from The Chess Mind as Dennis M has, very regrettably, ceased blogging
