Reminder :- You need to be in it to win it!!

Deadline for Week 1 is 19.00 tomorrow (Friday) - so if you haven't entered yet you need to be in by then to avoid missing a week.

Finally - the transfer deadline is today so all those with Lukaku, Kosielny et al will need to amend their teams!

Week One

You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Clint Eastwood (from Dirty Harry).

You probably will feel lucky if your name is Lucky Ndinisa whose team Lagos FC opened Week 1 with 142 points including 60 for Triple Captain Raheem Sterling and is top of overall ratings - at least for one week. Meanwhile Premier Chess began with a 96 point tally for Paul Talbot. Ominously three of our most successful managers Robert Ashworth, Mark Leonard and Gareth Yeo were 6th= on 88 points whilst Sabrina Chevannes was in 74th and last place with 34 points.

1 29Years no title lol Paul Talbot 96 96
2 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 94 94
3 Wrenchester United John Wrench 93 93
4= Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 89 89
4= Olympique Mayonnaise Grant Bucher 89 89

Meanwhile our team name of the week is MönchenGladToBeBach - so indeed welcome to the 2019-20 season!

Week 2

My agent called me about Norwich's interest and the first reaction was 'not for me'. Teemu Pukki

Those of you who opted for the Norwich City striker had a field day in Week 2 and in the overall ratings those fortunate to nominate Pukki as captain coupled with Scandinavian compatriot John Lundstram (Sheffield United) took a giant leap up the table. Chris Davison's "Mad Maynard" was top scoring team with 75 points whilst Graham Mill-Wilson's SirOsisOfTheLiver managed a mediocre 21 points for the low score. Two new arrivals in Week 2 (missing Week 1) from Gavin Carter and John Sargent ensures that they fill the bottom two places - how long before they overhaul some Week One sides. Meanwhile Mark Leonard moves into the top five - Samuel Milson is the new leader - courtest of Pukki as his double points captain.

1 Milson's Machine Samuel Milson 71 156
2 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 69 154
3 Oxspring Big Boys David Grobler 60 148
4 Wilson Pukki Mark Leonard 54 142
5= Hope Springs David Egginton 53 141
5= Oxford United Eldar Alizada 67 141

Finally Remember folks - a Friday night match (again). Lucky Ndinisa news - down to 3rd place but just a point off the joint leaders who have 205 points already.

Week 3

So for me to walk away from Bury and never go back is a very easy thing to do. Steve Dale - owner of Bury FC who were expelled from the EFL this week.

Last season Mark Leonard was the stand-out manager of Premier Chess Fantasy Football - he was in the top five for 37 of the 38 weeks. I point this out as he takes up the leadership in Week 3 this season. I had written quite a long piece earlier but promptly managed to delete it - so a rather abridged report this time. Top scorer of the week was Rob Ensor with 79 pts for Veni, Vardy, Vici whilst Dominic Rabbitte's Rabbit Rovers remained in their burrow with just 19 points for the low score.

1 Wilson Pukki Mark Leonard 70 212
2 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 57 207
3 Oxspring Big Boys David Grobler 53 201
4 Olympique Mayonnaise Grant Bucher 60 200
5 Sheep on Fire Adam Bremner 66 196

Team name of the week for Villa fans Mings The Merciless - which reminds me of the disastrous decisions I took - including leaving both Heaton and Mings on the bench! :(

Week 4

"My gratefulness and love for this club will be eternal. Javi Garcia, former Watson boss, sacked after 4 games.

After the international break we return to Premier League action. In Week 4 Mark Leonard maintains his position at the top with two new challengers emerging from the pack in Onos Kofi-Ofuafor & Rhys Cummings, the latter with the week's high score of 87. Meanwhile David Lambert's "Hibbert for England is the low scorer on 35 points. It's time for a first look at Nick's Picks - the wonderful world of selections from the team of Nick London - this year playing as To Hull and back. Nick first came to our attention in season 2016-17 when he finished in 63rd and last place; there was marginal improvement in the following two seasons (71st & 69th but not last) - however we are often introduced to players who never grace the fields of the Premier Division. Undeterred Nick has selected Max Kilman of Wolves (one minute played in 2018-19) to his squad this year along with James Chester (Villa) both on nil minutes and nil points plus this time round neither of Nick's chosen goalkeepers have played either. Nevertheless Nick is in 66th position at present - assisted by Sterling, De Bruyne & Kane.

1 Wilson Pukki Mark Leonard 61 273
2 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 82 266
3 #NolanOut Rhys Cumming 87 265
4 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 54 261
5 One Pep Beyond Samuel Watts 81 258

Overall Top team is Stuck on Trent with 358 points. If you're wondering how this team managed to reach this their manager played his Triple Captain in Week 1; used his Wild Card in Week 2; Bench Boost in Week 3 and Free Hit in Week Four. Possibly a short-lived stop at the top?

This proves a number of things:-

a) When the fixtures were a fortnight ago, it pays to write your review at the time rather than on the morning of the next set of fixtures
b) That some contributors here actually read as Ernie Wise might say "the piece wot I wrote"
c) That Watford (or it is Watson) are down for a Holmes win against Arsenal tomorrow.

The best way to find out how many people have read something is to deliberately put a mistake in it.

Week 5

"It was really easy to say ‘yes’.” - not the man from Del Monte but Quique Sanchez Flores about retaking the job at Vicarage Road.

It seemed very easy following the preceding comment to add a deliberate mistake each week but, hopefully, I've managed to avoid this so far. Gavin Carter, one of our two Week 2 starters, has succeeded in overtaking a Week 1 team Hendrik Hoffman's "One Legged Men" not surprising as they fell down with the low score of the week of 27 points - their two transfers in of David Silva & Daniel James scoring just three points. Meanwhile the top team of the week was Matt Payne's, "the Keita Success" which moved up over 2 million places with a score of 82 points. Two teams scored 81 points and one of these Alan Walton's "Woodpushers" is now in joint first place.

1= Wilson Pukki Mark Leonard 57 330
1= Woodpushers Alan Walton 81 330
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 61 327
4 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 55 316
5 Ramblas VI Simon Brown 74 315

Lost in translation As usual with over 6,000,000 entrants there is an assortment of nationalities filling the top overall places. Translating them into English gives some idea so, for example, the 7th placed side 裸照隊 appears to translate as "nude team". You are not recommended to search for this on Google. :oops:

Week 6

"After 30 seconds we realised it would be very tough and then after 15 minutes it was impossible to play like this." Quique Sanchez Flores after Watford lost 8-0 to Man City.

Three of last week's top five disappear with Samuel Watts & Paul Spiller (week's high score of 82 pts) making giant leaps to the top of the table. The smallest step of the week from Sabrina Chevannes with 30 points. Quarter Two normally sorts out the front runners - but after Week 6 there are 35 teams within 50 points of the top spot so we may see a closer contest this season. The most captained player of the week was Sterling, a choice devalued as he failed to appear whilst those of you who banked on Silva (Bernardo that is) struck gold with 19 points. So who will City select this week?

1 One Pep Beyond Samuel Watts 75 388
2 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 82 386
3 Ramblas VI Simon Brown 67 382
4 Woodpushers Alan Walton 52 382
5 #NolanOut Rhys Cumming 77 382

Question Which player scored 264 pts in 2016/17 including 24 goals and 11 assists but will score 0pts this season (still selected by 0.5% of managers)?

Alexis? I remember him being very good back then and the assists make me think him rather than Lukaku.

Correct! Alexis Sanchez in 2016/17 scored 264 points (of course he was with Arsenal then) - and is now out on loan from Manchester United to Inter-Milan for this season. Sanchez's wages at Man United were £350,000 a week topped up by image rights and bonuses to £500,000 a week and they are still paying the majority of that despite off-loading him to Inter. Last year he scored 1 goal and five assists - a total of 45 fantasy points. Lukaku scored 221 points in 2016/17 (25 goals, 6 assists) - but he was with Everton then! Lukaku joined Inter in August - but he still features in 0.4% of teams.

Week 7

“We have to stay together and help each other. The best medicine is to be all together." Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs thrashed at home 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Paul Spiller, one of the most successful Premier Chess managers in previous seasons, now takes an outright lead. The teams within 50 points of the lead has halved - 35 in Week 6; 18 in Week 7 so the challengers might be fading away (something like Newcastle). Bright spark of the week was Daniel Lambourne with 83 points and a leap of over 1,400,000 places -but still 3,354,704th overall. Dim bulb was Dave Ledger on 34 points.

1 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 71 457
2 Ramblas VI Simon Brown 64 446
3 One Pep Beyond Samuel Watts 54 442
4 #NolanOut Rhys Cumming 57 439
5 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 51 431

Overall Egyptian manager Medhat Shawky leads with 540 pts; for the past five weeks his team of فقاقيع الهواء has been in the top three. For those of you interested in a translation of the team name - it's "Air Bubbles".
