All games look like they were going to be drawn then suddenly it was tragedy for Nepo on move 77, when he mistakenly thought an en passant would save him.

Nepomniachtchi, Ian - Anand, Viswanathan, Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2019 round 01

Sort of thing you often see the moment you take your hand off the piece.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

True, but maybe not on this occasion. The video suggests to me that Nepomniachtchi only realised when Anand played 77 … b5.

There's a suggestion on Twitter that he'd seen 77... b5, but overlooked that 78. axb6 Nxb6 was check.

Had he played Kc5 then b6 could safely be met with axb6 as there is no knight check.

What's the time limit? People seem to have a lot of time on their clocks.

I found it in the Event Regs. All moves in 130 mins with a 30 second delay from move 1.

Thanks. 130 minutes feels like a clumsy figure for some reason.

If you treat delay as increment it adds up to 2 1/2 hours for forty moves, just like the old days.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

So it does, but that wasn't the reason.

The players were consulted about reducing the session length a little. They said that they would be comfortable with the Olympiad time limit, 40/90 + G/30 + 30 secs increment throughout, or something akin to it.

When the GCT Advisory Board decided that they would like to do away with the intermediate time control, I said that G/120 plus 30 secs increment would be fine, but that if they wanted delay, I would like an additional 10 minutes to compensate for the difference between delay and increment.

My view prevailed on this occasion.
