Would that bother FIDE or the organisers?
Yes, I think it would. The main purpose of the lower end of the World Cup is to make players in the 2600s happy. I don't think FIDE will do anything that makes them unhappy, except possibly by accident.

Looks like tiebreaker for Adams (Luke we already know). Gawain more likely to get 2/2, in view of Black's hooligan rook looking likely to surrender meekly to White's police force.

Whom does Gawain play next? (it's Ok to be lazy when no one else is even posting)

Four shock results today:
Christiansen (113) beating Wojtaszek (16)
Sarin (90) beat Cori (39)
Huscheneth (84) beating Naiditsch (45)
Esipenko (83) beating Ponomariov (46)

The 45th seed has never got beyond the last 64, and the 46th seed has lost in the last 128 five times out of nine; only once getting to the last 32.

As for Wojtaszek, players in the top 16 seeds have only gone out in the 1st round on 6 occasions, and 3 of those were defaults. Of the three that weren't defaults, the number 16 seed was two of them.

So 16, 45 and 46 do seem to be banana-skin seeds, but there's still potentially two days to go...
Christiansen has won 2-0, a far cry from his 0.5/2 in the March 2018 4NCL. Sarin & Huscheneth also won 2-0 and Esipenko is through with 1.5.

Thanks for posting that, Paul

Svidler often does well in these events, so may be an outside bet for the title

I'm not saying I've never lost a game like that, but they really are embarrassing. Get your king safe, mate.

I hope Mickey has prepared for his Indian opponent by studying Anand's games. Today's game is Vishy's current pet line.

Enterprising and typical exchange sac by Luke. May not be accepted, Black deep in thought.

Adams is certainly up against a solid and resilient opponent. Luke on course to win, though

This is a serious test for Mickey, now that they are into 10+10 with 5+3 and Armageddon to come.

His opponent Aravindh is 19, a fast rising talent with a good track record in blitz.
