Back to the topic, some of my requests do seem to have been implemented, although I still wish that they would stop using the live site as their development environment.

Re: FIDE Website
If "all eight players were known", how could they choose a wildcard given the size of the tournament is eight players?Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:42 pmThe point has already been made:
Fide has announced Ekaterinburg, the former Sverdlovsk, as its venue for the 2020 candidates. In earlier years the host city was only settled after all eight players were known, and the successful organisers would then choose a wildcard.

Possibly the wildcard is a reserve in case somebody drops out.

Re: FIDE Website
I think eight was just a misprint for seven. The wildcard plays in the event, is not a reserve.Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 12:48 pmIf "all eight players were known", how could they choose a wildcard given the size of the tournament is eight players?

if Wikipedia is right (and in this instance I think it is);
In 2013 (first of the new series) Radjabov got the wild card.
In 2014 the organisers' chose Svidler as wildcard.
In 2016 Aronian got a place in the Moscow candidates as wildcard when the sponsor was a Russian-Armenian business?
In 2018 Kramnik was the wild card choice of Agon, the organisers.

Re: FIDE Website
I think that's right; the Azeris funded the London Candidates and that's how Radjabov got it in 2013; 2014 was in Khanty; 2016 was funded by an Armenian
2018 was interesting, as Kramnik was the nearest on average rating, but first reserve was Radjabov due to the GP; a reminder that Radjabov has done well before winning the recent World Cup
World Chess get to choose the wildcard this time

Do you know if it was intentional to stop showing an unrated player's part rating calculations? Whilst it's possible to do those calculations yourself via "individual calculations" on a player's rating profile it was helpful to have each part rating listed so you could see at a quick glance how many games were needed to complete a rating.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:59 pmBack to the topic, some of my requests do seem to have been implemented, although I still wish that they would stop using the live site as their development environment.

Re: FIDE Website
This is a dreadful site which makes it virtually impossible to explain the process of fide rating to a new player!NickFaulks wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:59 pmBack to the topic, some of my requests do seem to have been implemented, although I still wish that they would stop using the live site as their development environment.

It has that typical look of a site that has been reconfigured to look good on a phone and as a consequence looks worse on a PC.Alex Holowczak wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 11:35 amWe don't know what any of the intentions are/were, no.

Re: FIDE Website
There is also the matter of the English.
e.g. FIDE have said that they are waiving FIDE entry fees for veterans. For many years the term 'veteran' has not been used internationally. 'Senior' means 50+. Of course that is an area that interests me.

If you want to search for a player by name or FIN then use this url. If you find who you are looking for then click on the name in the list in the usual way and you will get the old fashioned profile page.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.
