Apart from Keith, no British players. Larnaca is a well known holiday resort, so attempting to attract "tourists" may have made sense.

Hi guys, I wasn't going to post but I just saw that there is aleady a thread ( thanks Colin!) , so I'll copy and paste what I've just written on my facebook page:

I've finished up on 7/9 in the first Cyprus International Open. A result I'm very happy with as I had just one day's break after the crazy strong IOM event. Now the wait to see where I finished on tie-break. Anything from 1st to 5th is possible!

I played some very strong players, such as GMs Vasilios Kotronius, Andrey Sumets and Mikhail Ulybin. My last round opponent, Viacheslav Tilicheev from Russia, played great chess and completed his GM title here.

Oh, I'm pleased about that.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

In the end Kotronius and Sumets scored 7.5, the former being declared the winner on tiebreak. Tilicheev and myself finished 3-4th with 7. I was the 8th seed.

If re my performance then thanks, but if a touch of sarcasm re my mentioning that another Russian has become a GM

Thanks very much Colin, and thanks again for the thread, as I wouldn't have bothered reporting the result otherwise.
