Re: FIDE Open London Chess Classic
Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but is there really nothing on the London Chess Classic main event? Unless I am mistaken, Carlsen has just got knocked out at the semifinal stage, after two rather unexciting standard games and some more interesting shorter ones. His victor MVL plays Ding, who put out an uninspired Aronian, in the final.

Re: FIDE Open London Chess Classic
On day 1 of the standardplay, I remember starting play in the East Hall at 4:30. After a few minutes pottering about pointing latecomers in the right direction, I retreated to my Office and on the way I saw two of the four combatants heading for the lift out of Olympia. At least the people who paid money for a ticket today got somewhat better value for money. In fact, it was noticeably busier in the wings of the Auditorium today.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 11:26 pmSorry if this is the wrong thread, but is there really nothing on the London Chess Classic main event? Carlsen has increased his unbeaten streak at classical chess to 105(?) games.

seemingly virtually no interest here in the Adams v McShane and Jones v Howell matches either.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 11:26 pmSorry if this is the wrong thread, but is there really nothing on the London Chess Classic main event? Apparently it is not dissimilar at the venue - the matches are very much tucked away out of view. But perhaps this "big four" match up has started to beome repetitive as well. Marcus Harvey's 8.5/9 and near-miss v Adams is still the talking point, I am told.

Shreyas Royal is on 5/7. Just being shy of +4 W-We I think gives him a reasonable chance of a rating prize

An IM norm is very definitely on the cards there. I'm guessing he probably needs 1½/2.

Rhys Cumming's TPR has crept over 2300, and he therefore qualifies for the British.

Can’t honestly say I’ve ever seen 2Q+p vs 2Q before!

Re: FIDE Open London Chess Classic
My time at the Festival is now over for this year. I'm too exhausted to consider any of the quick stuff this weekend.
I would like to give a big thank you to the organisers and arbiting team who performed professionally and competently throughout. When problems did arise, they appeared to deal with them promptly and openly.
Finally, special praise is due to the game inputter(s), who got accurate game moves online within a few hours. I must apologise for my atrocious recording, which can't have made the job easy, but did not stop accurate online presentation.
