Argentina on the FIDE website

Post by Alex Holowczak » Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:08 pm

It seems that none of the Argentines have a rating according to the ratings site. The top country list does not have an entry for Argentina. Has anything happened between FIDE and Argentina?

It's not the first time a country's ratings have been withheld, it seems to happen with a few countries every rating list but not sure if this case is any different.

Usually means that they haven't paid their fees to FIDE.

Probably for non-payment of the fees as Sean suggests. In the case of Argentina this is not the first time. I remember at the Bled Olympiad in 2002, IM Ruben Felgaer of Argentina apparently was considering changing allegiance to Israel (I believe he's of Jewish extraction) because he'd scored his GM norms and was rated above 2500, but the Argentinian federation hadn't paid their fees to Fide, so he was at risk of not being awarded the title.
