Coronavirus leading to cancellation?

Re: coronavirus leading to cancellation?
I will leave it to others to decide if they agree with your statement immediately above.
If I find myself in close proximity to anyone displaying any symptoms (don't forget that with this virus symptoms may not be evident at all in some cases) that could be associated with the virus in question, or any other virus, I will estimate the potential risk and act accordingly.
What will that make me, eh Justin?

Re: coronavirus leading to cancellation?
these comments about sitting next to chinese people are ridiculous btw. said poster should know better, it's not the 19th century.
Wonder if the 4ncl will eventually be cancelled, and the chess olympiad and so on? hope not but if this develops you'd think they'd be at risk.

You can get the virus from anyone. Whether they are chinese or not is irrelevant, and posting such views just fuels ignorance and prejudice. there have already been a number of attacks against Asian people because of this virus leading to paranoia.

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Justin, to answer my own question - MISANTHROPIC is the worst I can come up with right now
You'll have to excuse me - time to go somewhere in close proximity to Gerard St.
PS You and Danny G can go your way and I'll go mine. Free speech is still just about surviving the avalanche of political correctness.

This is more specific advice -

Gerard Street, and its surrounding China Town, was fairly busy this lunchtime.
By contrast, Leicester Square was pretty empty.
While there is obvious concern, there is no apparent panic.

Is that because Leicester has had an outbreak?

I agree with Justin, suggesting people will get the virus simply from going to Chinese eating places is irresponsible.

I’m other news CNN are reporting that more than 1 in 3 Americans wouldn’t buy Corona beer because of the virus.
Better safe than sorry, eh?

Re: T&Cs applicable to Richmond Rapidplays (including blitz and standard play events)
Paul, Parking will not be a problem if local events cancelled.
I suggest at minimum posting something on website.
I suggest at least check Juniors against List of Schools closed.
Was trying to be helpful - 2 relatives in isolation and now 6 teacher friends as well as 100s children to stay at home.

Re: coronavirus leading to cancellation?
We cancelled because of a report. I work for Westminster City Council as well as Kensington.
17 schools closed in London.
I ate Chinese 26/2, Italian 27/2 and now thinking about a stew.
I hope my chess opponents do not wipe nose then pick up a piece.

Re: coronavirus leading to cancellation?
I've sat next to Chinese people and eaten in Chinese restaurants. I've lived in mainland China. Now is not the most auspicious time for such activities, within reason.
Covid-19 originated in China and has been spread from China by the movement of Chinese people.
I'll end by simply saying that if you do not want to think about the risks this virus poses then go ahead with your usual activites as if it simply doesn't exist.
