Many of the ECF website’s users/visitors have mooted the idea of a search function to help people – novices, lapsed players, tinies – to locate their nearest chess club and give them a shout re: joining, playing, spectating etc.
To that end our webmaster Andrew has made a map with Google for all to use –
http://tinyurl.com/yffpxl8
– and would like to encourage any club throughout the ECF to nominate one fearless, slightly web-savvy member to log in and add their club to the map, with an address, telephone, email and website where available. Let him know of your agreement, excitement, disapproval and/or objections by email and we’ll see if the thing will fly!
[email protected]
Simply email Andrew for the log in details and get your club on the map!

Re: The webmaster's bright idea?
Is there a new URL? I understand from the ECF website that there was a problem with the Google map recently created, which is a terrible shame. I spent nearly an hour on it myself, and that was just to add some of my local clubs. To re-create the whole thing must be very painful.

It seemed a silly idea rather open to abuse that one, however I am not aware of the reason for it's removal - can anyone clarify?mleonard wrote:Is there a new URL? Re: The webmaster's bright idea?
"The webmaster regrets ...
The Google map of chess clubs in England has been remade. Whether the recent breakdown was a Google-side error or something more malicious (as AR predicted) remains to be seen. As such, the password has changed and clubs should from now on be submitted to the webmaster for inclusion."
This seems a more sensible approach anyway, to what I think is a good idea.
