I agree with Snooker and Darts. In my opinion Chess should be classed as a sport.

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Interesting (apart from the awful diagram)

NY Times article
Great article about Hikaru Nakamura.
He is an exciting Chess player.
One of my Chess heroes along with Yasser Seirawan, Simon Williams and Danny Gormally.
Good to see Qiyu Zhou getting a mention. I hear she is doing very well back in Canada.
Qiyu Zhou played in the Open at the Blackpool Chess Congress 2017.
She is a very pleasant person along with her parents. I remember after a conversation with them, they offered me tea and cakes at the Imperial Hotel which I duly accepted.

Chess King Kyle Walker-Peters makes right moves - the Sun.

Sent off in first match of season... Premier League.

But the decision was reversed.

I remember hearing Qiyu Zhou's Dad expressing some horror at entering the Blackpool Congress and finding out halfway through it wasn't actually FIDE rated!

I see Sean Bean will be playing Mark Hebden in a new BBC series.

Regrettably not a biopic.

"I see Sean Bean will be playing Mark Hebden in a new BBC series."

Great spot - I'll leave someone else to greet Mark with "Hello, Mr Bean".

Maths and Chess
Is it really true that ability in mathematics and chess are somehow linked? Tim Harford pits his wits against a math-professor-turned-professional-chess-player, John Nunn.

I've been advised about this.

Glory To The Queen

"Glory to the Queen, explores an extraordinary biographical pattern between four women who became icons of women‘s
emancipation during the Soviet era. The focus lies on the legendary Soviet Georgian chess players Nona Gaprindashvili,
Maia Chiburdanidze, Nana Alexandria and Nana Ioseliani. The film leads us to Tbilisi in Georgia, where all four women live today. "
