Will chess be able to hold people's attention after the Covid crisis is over?
Possibly not, but it may be a very long time before we have to worry about that.
Magnus has got the right idea of how to keep the interest judging by his social media feed. Image

C'mon Beth!!

I'm curious to know whether anyone has a clue who these "real life women chess stars" are? The video reveals that one of them is https://www.chess.com/member/mobamba604 with an online rating of about 2100.

I think it's the Botez sisters. They are celebrity streamers, with big audiences. Play random games as well as Nakamura and other GMs.

"I think it's the Botez sisters."

Yes - and they appear on Eric Rosen's channel as well. (Actually there's a clue in the BBC thing as the name "Botez" appears on the screen quite early.)

They're spreading the word so good for them.

The older one is a WFM with FIDE rating 2020. The younger one has a FIDE rating 1676.

From BBC Football text commentary, posted at 20:49:-
Post update
Tottenham 2-0 Ludogorets

That was as one sided a half of football you will ever see. Like Beth Harmon versus pretty much anyone at chess.

Mark Wood does seem quite cultured for a cricketer. At one game during lockdown, I believe he stood on the balcony and sang "Jerusalem" to the players as the crowd would have done. Even the opposition applauded.

I believe Keti Arakhamia-Grant was on BBC Breakfast last week sometime. Don't think this is still available.

She was also on BBC Radio Scotland's "Drivetime" show yesterday I think, being interviewed by John Beattie for about 2 minutes before he segues neatly into a discussion on table dimensions.

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

There was an interview with Judit Polgar on the BBC News channel at about 18.23 and, doubtless, at other points during the day.

I will leave you to guess the subject of the interview.
I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.
