I suppose the less entries the arbiters can Zoom more and catch more cheats possibly.

I received an email this morning (5 Dec) from Nigel Towers: "Just to clarify the finals require Zoom – however the qualifiers, rating limited events and major open do not require it and are Zoom-free."Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 12:29 amIt looks now as if all listed events now need the full monty of Zoom, no electronics in the room, etc. I think previously there seemed to be a small list, including the Major Open, that didn’t.
...correction. Everything but the qualifiers.

...I think they keep tinkering with the regulations. Is that the final decision of no Zoom on the rating limited/Major Open events? (Before I MacGyver together a electronic free room, with a computer desk not facing a window or a door! Lol)MSoszynski wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:19 amI received an email this morning (5 Dec) from Nigel Towers: "Just to clarify the finals require Zoom – however the qualifiers, rating limited events and major open do not require it and are Zoom-free."Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 12:29 amIt looks now as if all listed events now need the full monty of Zoom, no electronics in the room, etc. I think previously there seemed to be a small list, including the Major Open, that didn’t.

I entered the 65+ Standard and Rapid a while back; entries are low (12 and 9 respectively) so I wonder if the Qualifiers are needed or can everyone play the Final?
I have emailed ECF and await a reply.
When I entered the website said the closing date for the Championships (including seniors) was 7pm yesterday (Friday 11 December).
But at 1054 am today I received a circular email from Andrew Walker which says:

Who to believe?"Entries are still open for the various Championships qualifiers, Major Open and Rating limited events."

The current version of the tournament regulations has different entry deadlines depending on the event, the earliest of which is 7 pm on 15 December.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 12:11 pmWhen I entered the website said the closing date for the Championships (including seniors) was 7pm yesterday (Friday 11 December).

With 902 entries to date, the event seems quite popular, although it's not obvious how many people have entered multiple events to determine the number of different people taking part.

Entry deadlines have been extended where more players can be accommodated.
Some changes have been made to the Regulations in response to suggestions received. I passed on some of the comments made in this thread.

Looks like a browser cache issue. I was seeing V1-2 of the tournament regulations, but pressing Ctrl+F5 (to refresh the cache in Firefox) brought up the newer V1-3.

Caching is a particularly annoying issue when a pdf document is updated...

Apologies: it is indeed annoying when the computer doesn't do what one tells it to do. I have now seen the updated version.

So do you have to play in the Senior Qualifier before you play in the Senior Championship itself?

Presumably you do (that's what qualifier means) unless the total number of entries does not exceed the capacity of the Final.Phil Neatherway wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 3:00 pmSo do you have to play in the Senior Qualifier before you play in the Senior Championship itself?
Which might happen in the 65+ Rapid. They could cancel the qualifier and have a round-robin final as it stands, I think.
Which brings me to a question about the Senior Standard. It says:
Does this mean a 14-player final or a 12-player final if the top two non-ENG players finish in the top 12?The top 12 players will qualify for the British Seniors final together with the top 2 non-ENG players.
As seems quite likely in the 65+ based on ratings alone.

Thanks, Tim, I had just about come to that conclusion.
