Well, Anand said that gives Nepo more chances if he does. But I think he will.

The odd thing is that Nepo does not have many more games with the white pieces left. If we see another repeat of today's game, I suspect the match is already over.

Nepo isn't going to win with Black, is he?
His only chance is to go 'va banque' with White.

Well, he just lost one opportunity to do that. Presumably because he was tired from the last game.

Well he might as well reveal his Masterplan as he is not going to Live Forever.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 12:16 pmWill Nepo look back in anger? Some might say that Magnus converted his advantage little by littleJ T Melsom wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 11:35 amAfter the teaser, I'd like to read more about the Magnus and Manchester City analogy. Roll with it.

"Has anybody else been experiencing problems with Chess24 over the last two days? The site not loading, the moves freezing, that kind of thing?"
A bit - someone seems to have been thinking for 40 minutes, you "refresh" and suddenly you're 5 moves later...

By the way, whatever happened to the Carlsen Sicilian?
Perhaps he has decided to take no risks in this match; accept a slightly passive position with Black, and grind out the occasional win with White.
It seems to be working.

I am staggered that anyone might have expected Nepo to "go fo it" the day after - well, far less than a day after - a gruelling eight hour loss.
Three whites left still. Just one win required. That is hope of some kind but only when he gets his energy back and his head together.

Yes, perhaps he felt a bit flat today and it wasn't worth taking the risk.

Good to hear British arbiters getting their priorities right, even at World Championships.Andy Howie wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 9:44 amI don't know if Nepo will go for it or wait until Friday where he has the White / Black / White combination. My gut says he is going to try to strike back today so I had a large lunch in anticipation of not getting back in time to eat tonight

I think he is more likely to go for it Tuesday after the rest day, leaving his White, Black White Combo next weekend as a fall backJonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 4:26 pmI am staggered that anyone might have expected Nepo to "go fo it" the day after - well, far less than a day after - a gruelling eight hour loss.

Pop quiz: which world champion complained of which famous international tournament that on playing days, the competitors had to do without their dinner?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I agree that he's far less likely to win with black whilst Magnus is 1 up. I have found the Magnus white games to be far more interesting so far, even though/because the odd numbered games are openings that I am more familiar with.Nick Ivell wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 3:37 pmNepo isn't going to win with Black, is he?

The thing with Ian figuring out which white game he might try for a win, is that he also has his black games to contend with, and if Magnus gets a sniff in those games he is definitely going to go for it. After a short draw yesterday I sense that Magnus will see game 8 today as an opportunity to virtually wrap the match up.
