Elon Musk, the world's richest person and the chief executive of the electric car company Tesla, has said he will pay more than $11bn in tax this year – which could be a record amount of annual tax paid by a single person. (20 Dec 2021)

So 2:0 for Elon Musk in this chess game. Congrats.

DEVIL'S HOUR
On Amazon prime video. I have yet to see it. It starts today and I think there are 6 episodes.
There was a glowing review in today's Daily Tlegraph. It was accompanied by a photo showing the cheap protagonist studying a chess position.

What is a cheap protagonist?

I assume it was a budgerigar (but not Adam Faith).

Maybe it was Alan Michael Sugar?

I'm thinking now the media has chess linked with cheating all villains for the next 10 years will be chess players.

The player is trying give the Beth Harman look. The Board is the the correct way but the King and Queens are on the wrong square, although the game has started and technically they could have started on the correct squares.

At a Car Boot sale this morning. Someone was selling old Viz's for 20p each.
I picked up one (from 1991)and flicked through it. Right away I saw the cartoon below and bought 5.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022 film) at 10.57 college principal addressing student volunteers/draftees (translated from German):

'For modern war is like a game of chess, it is never about an individual soldier'.

New film with a strong chess theme. And it's all about, ah...
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Blue Monday by Nicci French Page 282 in my copy.

'Frieda sat at her chess table and played through one of the games from her book of classic matches, Beliavsky versus Nunn in 1985.'

Sean French (half of the Nicci French partnership) played in a few Richmond Rapidplays back in the 1990s. His rating page appears to be here.

This piece (or more accurately, excerpt) on Gordon Banks' save from Pelé has Jairzinho saying
It was a high-level game, a type of chess game.
(It also has him saying "avant la lettre", which I woud like to know more about.)
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."
