Of course, being a NY fan makes Philadelphia's recent sporting successes hard to bear.

Indeed - although I would prefer them to the Phillies.
Last year's World Series line-up was a nightmare for a Mets fan.

Re: WORLD CUP!!!
I find this all rather tiresome - I don't mind football and I quite like watching England play. But this has been going on for months already with stickers and albums and all the other marketing crap. Carl and Jack - if we have to have this, can we put it somewhere else rather than Chat. Maybe open a seperate area.

Anyone fancy joining my fantasy league for the World Cup? www.fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk - enter your team and then league name is CCF AND CFC with the number being 8001177. Allcomers welcome. I have a team, my 7 year old son has a team (in my name) and CCF club member Sandy Smyth is in as well so far. Expecting a few more.

My humble apologies. I didn't realise you had someone there forcing you to open threads and read them.John Moore wrote:I find this all rather tiresome - I don't mind football and I quite like watching England play. Re: WORLD CUP!!!
I might create a non chess related section just to organise things around a little better

Re: WORLD CUP!!!
Andrew - I'd have thought my point was clear enough. Of course, I don't have to read the thread but this is the English Chess Forum. If we don't stick fairly close to that, we shall finish up with all sorts of extraneous stuff which might be of interest to 2 or 3 Forumites (or [granted] rather more in the case of the World Cup). After all if you and Ben want to chatter away about the World Cup or, indeed, American sport (where you do lose me), there are plenty of other places to do it.Andrew Camp wrote:My humble apologies. Maybe we should have a non-chess section!

Re: WORLD CUP!!!
I have to agree with John, what has the majority of this got to do with chess? It's rich coming from me considering I usually come out with a load of rubbish anyway, though it is chess related. I haven't got an issue with other sports and will support England even though we all know they will lose to Spain/Portugal in the semis (penalty shoot out). On this point, at least England have won the world cup. France had to wait along time to win it, Spain and Portugal have never won it both of whom have great teams nowadays.
Anyhow chess chess chess.

Re: WORLD CUP!!!
And I'll +1 the people above me, whilst admitting at the same time to a dislike of (professional) football. After all, this is a chess forum, and if anyone wants to keep any hope of it becoming official then these discussions are useless at best
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

I have split the section off - please highlight to me anything that now belongs in the "Not Chess" section - even older threads please
