e2e4.org.uk Golden Entry Form

52 players played in at least two of the three qualifying events (Uxbridge, Warrington and Sunningdale) to qualify for the draw for the e2e4.org.uk "Golden Entry Form" which will give the lucky winner free entry to every e2e4.org.uk weekend event for the remainder of 2010 and all of 2011.

Each qualifying player has been allocated a random number from 1-49 and the winner will be determined by the UK National Lottery draw this evening. The winner will be the player whose number is drawn as the Bonus Ball.

Three numbers (1, 25 and 49) have been allocated twice, and the six players with these numbers have therefore been allocated 1 Odd, 1 Even, 25 Odd, 25 Even, 49 Odd and 49 Even. Should the bonus ball be 1, 25 or 49 then the winner of the Golden Entry Form will be determined by the Oddness or Evenness of the first ball drawn in this evenings UK National Lottery.

Now that's not true because they need an even first ball given that the bonus ball was odd. And that is a 50/50 shot. Conditional probability!

Each qualifying player has been allocated a random number from 1-26 and allocated "Odd" or "Even" and the winner will be determined by the UK National Lottery draw this evening.

The winner will be the player who

1) Matches their odd/even requirement with the 7th (Bonus) ball drawn this evening. Should the bonus ball be number 49, this will be ignored and the match must be with the 6th ball. This ensures the chance of odd / even is exactly 50/50 for each player.

2) Matches their allocated number with the first ball drawn in tonights lottery. If the first ball drawn is greater than 26 then the match must be with the 2nd ball drawn, then the third etc, up to and including the 7th (bonus) ball if necessary.

If all 7 balls drawn are greater than 26 then we will repeat the process on Wednesday 9th June with the same number allocations.

Why don't you use the thunderball as the decider, rather than the bonus?

How about allocating each of the players a unique number from 0 to 51. Multiply together all 7 lottery numbers that are drawn, take the remainder of that number modulus 52 and that gives you the winning player's number.

Definitely unfair. If your number isn't divisible by 4, you've got almost no chance of winning.

There's always the Illinois state lottery, which uses 52 balls, and is drawn on a Saturday.

Sadly not shown in the UK, even thought it's probably more interesting than most of the dross that is broadcast.

I think Richard is correct. As I'm 22odd though maybe I shouldn't complain!
