John Beasley

This obituaries section is rather hit and miss, but perhaps that is hard to avoid.

For example, we lost John Beasley on 3 March 2024, a significant figure in the chess problem world. Source: The British Chess Problem Society:

JB is referenced several times within

https://britishchessnews.com/

(which you may find using the Search option)

but, as yet, a biographical item has not been written.

I hope to attend to this omission following the Penrose work for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

I never met John Beasley in the flesh but he contributed the Endgame Studies feature which appeared in BCM every other month while I was the magazine's editor (1999-2010). His attention to detail and accuracy were matchless. In all the time we worked together, there was not a single error in his copy and it always fitted exactly in the space provided without cuts or additions being required. As typesetter as well as editor, I always felt an extra degree of pressure to live up to his 100% accuracy and precision when typesetting and submitting the proofs for his scrutiny. He would be equally accurate, as well as courteous, at the proof-reading stage. He was one of the most remarkable people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
