Yes, thanks, Richard. I already had this game which was also published in BCM. Your post inspired me to add a feature on the April 1926 British Boys' Championship to the 1926 British Championship page on BritBase, with 13 games from the boys' championship. I was going to ask if that is Amos Burn, but I see John has annotated the Britbase record to say this already:

"Henry Ernest Atkins & Louise Matilda Fagan vs Amos Burn & Kate Belinda Finn".

I presume the original newspaper source confirms some of this? Is there an Amos Burn collection, or is this a new one for him?

How common was it for consultation games like this to be played (and published)?

Do we know what the four protagonists were doing in Llandudno?

Presumably taking the waters at the Craigside Hydro (spa) while taking part in the 1899 Llandudno chess tournament?

In 1899 Burn won with no defeats and just two draws in ten games ahead of a strong field. In the Second-Class section that year, the Caernarvonshire born J. Ellis Parry came second with 6½ points behind N. Clissold and ahead of the two leading English lady players Miss Finn and Miss Fagan.

Almost certainly Louisa Matilda Fagan (nee Ballard): born 1850, died 1931. John Upham added a memorial for her on the Find a Grave website:

The report (page 73) states Miss Finn finished a point behind Mackenzie (6pts.) She is showing 3½ pts so it would appear Miss Finn beat both Mr Jones and Mr Lewis. If so the only the result missing is between Jones and Lewis.

The game itself is interesting. A temporary sacrifice on b3 on move 21 which led to immediately regaining the piece on f3 (I have not seen that sort of tactic before). Does anyone know if the queen sacrifice a few moves later was sound. It looks like it to me, but maybe there are saving lines?
