Average team rating

In calculating the average team rating, LMS includes a defaulted player as having a rating of zero. This can be misleading. Am I alone in expecting the average team rating to be the average rating of those who actually played? There is a difference between playing a highly rated team with say transport problems and a lowly rated team who all turn up.

Yeah, they're both misleading in slightly different ways.

(The most relevant stat is probably Expected Match Score, which has to be calculated board-by-board and isn't really linked to the averages.)

The Berks knock out competitions have a handicap rule where the score by which the higher rated team should win depends on the total ratings of the teams. For this purpose, a missing player is deemed to have the rating of the second highest.

chess-results will also set the rating of unrated players in teamss to zero. This can affect seedings in events like the Olympiad.

Chess-results doesn't set anything Swiss Manager does. Within Swiss Manager you can set the rating minimum for the sarting rank.

For the British Junior Team Challenge qualifier in Bristol I set it at 250, for 4 unrated players in a tream this gives a starting team rating of 250.
