Jim Moran

[Simon Rogers]

I am sorry to inform you that Jim Moran sadly passed away on the 12th January 2026, at the age of 89.
Jim was one of the former Merseyside Chess Association(MCA) Vice-Presidents, a Division Controller and Executive Officer of the MCA.
He was also President of Waterloo Chess Club at the time of his passing.
Along with Pauline, his wife for 57 years and now his widow, Jim gave many years of sterling service and support to both the MCA and Waterloo Chess Club.
I had spoke to Jim a few times around the chess scene and he seemed a pleasant chap.
I think he was captain of the Merseyside Under 100 county team when I was captain of the Lancashire Under 100 team many years ago and played each other.
The funeral service was held for him on Tuesday 3rd February at St.Philip's Church, Orrell Road, Litherland, Liverpool, Merseyside, L21 8NG.
RIP
